Sometime soon Jeb, I'm going to pick your brain for Star Wars trivia! I was a big fan of the Star Wars trilogy, having watched each installment in the theater. Yep, I was one of those unsuspecting fans way back when in 1977, that had absolutely no idea what this new Star Wars movie was all about. I sat there with hundreds of others, awaiting this new movie to start up. When the type rolled, everyone hushed, what's this? LOL
Now if you can believe this I've never watched #1 and #2, yet. I felt so loyal to the trilogy, I just couldn't bring myself to watch a movie with Luke, Leia, and Hans. Sounds crazy I know but true. One of these days I'll get around to watching the first two. And next would #3, when I can.
Funny side note, I taped A & E's behind the scenes look at George Lucas and the trilogy. I thought it was fascinating. Especially how none of the cast, crew or George Lucas himself knew it would take off like it did. Overnight, they were stars/celebs!
Then my daughter Laura wanted to rent Stargate. She loved that movie. So I said if you like Stargate you'll like Star Wars (what I call New Hope, Episode IV). Sigh, she thought it moved too slow. We stopped before the big battle scene at the end. I have it on DVD for a few days more. Now I'm enjoying the commentary.
Maybe you can answer this question, since you're really into these movies - which episode of the trilogy is considered the best one? I have an idea but want to see what you say.

Most People consider Episode V-The Empire Strikes Back- to be the best of the original Trilogy. The new DVD has a better exchange between the Emperor and Lord Vader than the original. For those with an eye for detail, note the insertion of another city in the celebration scene at the end of Episode VI. I've got all 5 movies now on DVD-have to see how my heroes (Vader and Palpatine) come to be what they became in the Trilogy. My son is the main SW fan in the Family.

Thanks Aslkahuna, I thought Empire was the one considered best of the trilogy, just wasn't sure.
Maybe you can answer more questions! In the new DVD updated version of Episode IV, just what did they add or enhance? Jabba wasn't it in originally was he? That was a surprise! Here I was telling my daughter who the green guy, whatever his name is, works for and explained we wouldn't see him until later. Then Jabba appears! Did the cantina scene have any new features or deleted scenes put back in?
Thanks!

The Green guy is Greedo. According to my friend who is also a big fan of SW, there is no real new features or deleted scenes in the movie.
Jabba the Hutt was added to the 1997 SW Special Addition. The CGI character was modified in the 2004 DVD so to remain consistant with Episode I Jabba.

PS - hey all you fellow SW fans, my oldest daughter who's 17 and watches That 70s Show with us, asked - just WHAT is the big deal about SW? On the 70s, Eric Forman is a SW nut. He has a SW reference nearly every episode! So I was trying to answer her and she kept saying - I don't want the whole plot Mom, just tell me what it's really about! I said Nina, I couldn't even tell you the whole plot (b/c my memory is so lousy, hence my SW questions here!), that would take too long. So I summed it up like this and tell me if you all agree - "SW is basically about good vs evil, but it takes place in the future". Then she asked why so many movies....I just changed the subject!!!!

Actually, the story takes place long long ago in a Galaxy far far away. From a story standpoint, it is the classic good vs evil action movie but it also made cinematic history for the innovations that Lucas brought-innovations that we take for granted in our movies today. Star Wars is to Sci-Fi movies what Star Trek is to Sci-Fi TV. It's a phenomenom hard to explain. But remember Harrison Ford who played Han Solo in the Trilogy also became Indiana Jones another type of movie hero in the same genre.
Also, Darth Vader has got to be the Ultimate Villian of all time in the Trilogy.
