Man Leaps From Empire State Building

NEW YORK (AP) - A man jumped to his death Friday from the 86th-floor observation deck at the Empire State Building, one of Manhattan's busiest tourist destinations, police said.

The apparent suicide forced police to briefly close the landmark on Fifth Avenue to tourists in New York for the holiday weekend.

The man apparently climbed over a security fence that encloses the observation deck before leaping off. He hit a landing on the sixth floor, where he died instantly, police said.

No identification was found on his body.

At least 31 other people have committed suicide at the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931. More than 3.8 million people visit the tourist attraction each year, according to the building's Web site.

It is 1,454 feet to the top of the Empire State Building's lightning rod.

Yes. I guess you are right. I just wish there was something that could have been done to stop him. :(

He could have killed an innocent bystander if they happened to be where he fell.

While that is true KC, there are times when people feel that there is no one there to help them, and no way out. While there are clearly people who are willing to help, the person who does this thinks as if no one cares anymore about them.

I don't exactly get the bolded type there KC. Are you trying to say that the Church or God looks down or forbids suicide?

And how exactly is that one reason not to commit suicide? Another song I like is "Hold On" by Good Charlotte.

Commiting a sin as great as suicide, is an automatic no no. Gets you a nice ride down to the gates of hell. No trip to heaven for you. Basically. THATS Laments terms.

Well, that is what is taught from what I hear. Why would God look down on such a person for doing that? Are we saying that if I were to commit suicide (hypothetical here) I would be in hell forever? I do not think so... but who knows really.[/u]

Yes, it would be. For two main reasons. But I dont know god makes the rules. 1) In the Ten commandments it says thou shalt not kill. And when you kill yourself. You are killing someone. And so you have broken 1 of gods main rules and can not be forgivien of it because you are dead. And thus ye will be cast into thou fires of hell. ANd 2) God gave you this life. To live, not to throw away. And god is a jealous god as it says in the bible when he says 1 shall not have any gods before him. And he will be very mad and jealous of the life one hast thrown so horribly away.

Well, from my standpoint, speaking on case of being there, I never thought about that until I read that somewhere. I actually, in my view, don't believe that. IMO, God is caring and forgiving, no matter what you do to others and yourself.
