Mary and Jeremy, :)

I got a great egg nog shake one time at a United Dairy Farmer's store in the Cincy 'burb of Warsaw after having had some Skyline chili w/ my family before we all headed down to KY (our hotel stop before continuing to NC) back in December 2002 to wrap up our Christmas trip vacation! :D

I know it doesn't beat Graeter's...but that UDF treat was still a nice way to top off a chili supper! :)

Eric - while I said Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip ice cream is the best I've ever tasted, which is true, I actually prefer UDF (local chain started by Cincinnati Reds owner, Carl Lindner, called United Dairy Farmers) ice cream more. Graeter's is very rich. Almost too sweet! UDF is what I remember growing up on and I like it better. When I tell people this in Cincinnati, they look at me like I'm crazy!

And I prefer Gold Star Chili over Skyline too! Because I grew up on Gold Star, not Skyline. We didn't have a Graeters or Skyline in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, where I lived until I was 20.

But I have to say, Wisconsin dairyland's ice cream is so good! If I moved there, I'd put on weight within a week I'm sure. It would be hard to avoid!

Miss Mary wrote:Well, here's an ice cream question for you all....does anyone know of a brand sold in grocery stores similar or very much like Praline Caramel I had in Wisconsin? 2 summers ago we vacationed in Door County, WI and I loved this flavor - very rich vanilla with crunchy pralines and swirls of thick caramel.

I've tried other flavors with caramel and/or pralines in it, but they're not exactly what I had in Wisconsin.

It was so good!

Mary

Shannon to the rescue....Is it Cedar Crest? Kemps? Hansen's? Hansen's is a local company based in Green Bay that only sells around the Green Bay metro (appleton to door county)

I can't remember! I just recall several, very good ice cream parlors in the area. We stayed at the Ever-something condo's on the outskirts of Fish Creek. We walked into Fish Creek several times. Drove around Door Country a lot, where we saw even more ice cream parlors! Wisconsin isn't called the Dairy Heartland of the Country for nothing I guess. We talked about the ice cream from up there for months!

Hey, I gave Ben & Jerry's another look yesterday. There's a flavor very similar to the one I liked in WI. Vanilla, swirled with creamy caramel but instead of pralines, they added cashews. In fact the name of it has something to do with cashews....it's good but I still like the WI one better. Maybe it has to do with being on vacation too - you're just in a different, laid back mindset on vacation. And everything tastes better!

Wow! That one sounds good Miss Mary. I love cashews. What's the name of it?

Mary - here it is:

Ben & Jerry Ice Cream

"Uncanny Cashew" (pint size)

Description at the bottom...
"Sweet cream ice cream with caramel-coated cashew pieces & swirls of caramel."

Enjoy!

I would try to guess, but there are way to many ice cream parlors in door county.

:( Mary, I couldn't find it at the Albertson's we shop at last night, so I'll have to try Publix.... I had to settle for my Haagen Daaz Strawberry Cheesecake this time. :)

I think we found "ice cream" (almost hate to call it that) that will NEVER make this list. That carb counter crap. YUCK....

Decided to eat the real thing in substantially smaller portion sizes than torture ourselves with this swill.
