Chemical Trucks stolen

Two trucks stolen from Polk County chemical plant
Wednesday, December 1, 2004
Two 2005 International 10-wheeled box trucks were stolen Wednesday from Verdicon, a subsidiary of United Agri-Products in Mulberry.

The suspects cut the lock on the fence to the property and stole the trucks. Within one of the trucks was a canister of Vikane gas, which is used by exterminators to tent buildings. The gas is highly toxic and could be very dangerous if opened.

A B.O.L.O. (meaning be on the lookout) has been issued statewide for the trucks. They are marked on all sides with the company logo saying Verdicon, an upside down pyramid of green, blue and red, and DOT number 1203339. The truck with the gas has placards stating "Inhalation Hazard" on its sides, and Florida tag NO7-83F.

The gas is odorless, colorless and tasteless. If anyone locates either truck or the canister of gas, please call 911.

Nobody should attempt to open the gas canister.

There were 30 full LP tanks stolen from someplace in the mid west yesterday I think. They pulled up in a truck in broad daylight and stole them while the manager called the police.

The one stolen in New Jersey earlier this year hasn't been recovered either. I hope that these incidents aren't related.

Stolen trucks from Polk County chemical plant found
Thursday, December 2, 2004

The trucks were stolen from Verdicon.
Two 2005 International 10-wheeled box trucks stolen Wednesday from Verdicon, a subsidiary of United Agri-Products in Mulberry, were found Thursday morning.

The suspects were not found.

The trucks were found at a construction site, Johnson Brothers Equipment Corporation, in Bartow, about 10 miles from where they were originally stolen.

The toxic gas canister in one of the trucks was intact.

The suspects had cut the lock on the fence to the property at Verdicon and stole the trucks. Within one of the trucks was a canister of Vikane gas, which is used by exterminators to tent buildings. The gas is highly toxic and could be very dangerous if opened.
