Another threat for the Philippines on the way?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Another threat for the Philippines on the way?

#1 Postby Gorky » Thu Dec 02, 2004 2:15 pm

There is a new invest sprung up today from the same area Nanmadol - 92W.Invest. This area is still in low shear and if soemthing forms from this I can't see anything stopping it taking a similar route to Nanmadol. I'd seen this area earlier today whilst looking at the shear maps, but there was not much n the way of convection going on, however, things have changed now and there is somethng building there.

Well, the Philippines have had multiple hits before. One of the most noteworthy times was in 1974 when from the the first half of October through the end of November they had 6 typhoons, one TS and one TD hitting the Country with all of the typhoons hitting Central to northern Luzon.

If it can be noted this year at the beginning the main target was the Philippines with Super Typhoon Nida devastation the poor area of Luzon. Then, all shifted to Japan and the typhoons almost forgot about the Philippine area. Now, at the end of the year, all seems to have shifted back toward the Luzon area, noteworthy, is normal for the Philippines to have a busy end.

Climatologically, the period of October through December (and sometimes even into January) is the greatest threat period for typhoons in the Philippines. The storms form at lower latitudes then and when they run straight they run right into the Philippines.

Gorky, sadly, very sadly to say, you are very true in your assessment. According to NOPAGS a moderate to powerful center of circulation will impact the central region of the Philippines in the next 144 hours or 6 days. First, Japan was the main target, but as is usual at the end of the year, the Philippines are paying the cruel price of being a tropical country.
