Men! Have you xmas shopped on the 24th before?

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Wed Dec 08, 2004 12:22 pm

Actually something Donna said on another thread, prompted me to start this topic.....so here's the question:

Storm2K male members? Okay, now that I have your attention....

Have you ~ever~ shopped for xmas gifts on December 24th before?

Come on!!!! 'Fess up. I know some of you have, it's a guy thing (as my husband tries to explain).

Tell us your funny stories. Maybe bribing a store clerk to remain open for a last minute gift?

We women are interested!!!!

Maybe once or twice when I found out we still needed to get something for someone. I think once I did it for my wife when I found a really good sale on something I knew would be a big surprise for her. I do not make it a habit.

Yes, sometimes I will be looking for that last minute gift for someone and I will need to be out shopping on the 24th. Usually I wrap it up on the 23rd though.

Yes, once, about 8am that morning.

NEVER, EVER again. If I forget someone, they will get money.

Yes, but only for extra stuff that I just happened to think about. Probably wouldn't have mattered if I got it or not.

It's a long tradition for my husband. I don't think he even knows what he's shopping for until he sees it. And those sales girls are verrrrrry helpful, especially in Victoria Secret.

Me? I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere but the grocery store on Dec 24. But that totally doesn't count, right Mary? lol

yes ... actually, I've gotten some very sweet deals on Christmas Eve and avoided the long crazy lines (many years running!) ...

I'll admit to being in the checkout line a time or two at closing time (6 p.m.) on Christmas Eve over the years....but it was when I had folks sick in the hospital and didn't get the chance any sooner.

It won't (hopefully) happen this year....I already have most of my shopping done (much of it done this afternoon).

Wow, thanx everyone for the replies.

Liked Ed's the best....all he posted was a....YES!

Donna - it does sound right that you would only caught in a grocery store on the 24th! Me too. Never a mall - no way! Not even Target!

I had to run out to Krogers on the 24th 2 years ago when we were hosting Jim's family on the 25th (30+ people!). I ran out of something.....and Nina asked me to pick up a gag gift for her cousin exchange, a 12 pack of A & W creme soda. She spent a week with her Chicago aunt/uncle/cousins and one kept saying that was his favorite soda, but he could never find it (Jack was 9 then). So I saw a display with it, grabbed a 12 pack and came home. Put away refridgerated items then realized I forgot something again! I left the soda on the kitchen counter, big mistake. Nina came along and drank one. I came home to see it opened! Then she said oh, my gag gift, go out again Mom and buy another, we'd like creme soda for ourselves. I said no way! I am not going to Kroger's a third time on Christmas Eve, are you nuts?! Shame she wasn't driving yet.....anyway, we put a Pepsi can inside it, taped it up good and she wrapped it. When Jack opened it, he wondered now why is there a Pepsi with creme soda's? LOL We still laugh about this one......but he did get 11 cans of his favorite soda.

No, I can honestly say I have not shopped on December 24th for a gift before. Maybe some wrapping paper. Maybe a special bow. But not a gift.

My former boss in Illinois did ALL his shopping on Christmas Eve.

Not only that, but he would give his administrative assistant a list, tell her to run to this particular store on her lunch hour, and bring back the gifts pre-wrapped.

The incentive was that she could also pick out HER gift from among many as his thank you for doing that.

For all I know he still does that...only he no longer is in business and must find someone else to do the shopping on that day.

No. Although I didn't finish until the 23rd last year.

BTW my met friend, Steve Horstmeyer, always does a countdown of procrastination days until Christmas Eve. Right now that countdown stands at 15 days. Thought I'd throw that in there for a little laugh!
