NOTE: Country music legends to perform at Ivan benefit concert April 18

"The Gambler" and the man from "Whiskey River" plan to bring their country standards to Pensacola in April to help raise money for Hurricane Ivan victims.

Legendary country musicians Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson are scheduled to perform April 18 at the Pensacola Civic Center for a hurricane relief concert.

Nelson, the bandana-clad balladeer, has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years among young adults. Nelson's hits include "Whiskey River," "On The Road Again" and "You Were Always On My Mind."

Rogers, the singer-turned-actor, has recorded numerous popular songs throughout his career spanning several decades. His songs include "The Gambler," "Lucille" and "Through The Years."

Organizers with Rebuild Northwest Florida, an 80-member group of private residents committed to restoring the area to its pre-Ivan condition, are attempting to book additional acts for the concert, said Eric Nickelsen, who heads the group's fund-raising committee.

Ticket prices and availability still are pending, Nickelsen said.
