East Coast Christmas

So...with all this talk about these huge shots of cold air coming down in the next few weeks...all talk has been on texas and stuff...what is it looking like for the East Coast...or is this not going to really affect us here on the East Coast? (Eastern NC)....i would go look myself but i can not really understand the maps...so i figured it would be smarter to just ask all of you who really know what your talking about!!

Well it sure would be nice to have a snow like the christmas of 1989. But I would hold my breath for very long. We just don't get the sonw here. If we get 4-5 in a winter we are lucky. :roll:

Basically, this all will have to move East also and if the Southern portion of this does indeed verify with very cold temps and precipitation, there is no reason not to expect it in your area too. Currently, remembering we are still at least a week and a half out, it appears that the TX area will get it around Dec. 23-24 and then it will move East from here putting your area in the "mess" around the 25-27 or so.

There's a folk saying that if you hear thunder in December, snow is ten days away. Well, there certainly was a good deal of very loud thunder and bright flashes of lightening this morning as the front went through this morning near Raleigh. Now let's see what happens around the 20th of the month!

In the TX area we are about 1.5 weeks away from the currently progged strongest punch of very cold air. Actually it is almost 2 weeks since the coldest and possibly wettest time is supposed to be around the 23rd or 24th in this area. Cold should begin building in around the 19th or so and progressively get colder according to some scenarios I have read. This is for the TX/LA area I am talking about. It will be a few days later further East. Of course, this far out anything could happen but it is unusual for models to be coming as close to agreement as some are this far out.

i am getting excited about this...but i fear i will be sadly disapointed as usual when dealing with snow events for eastern nc. but...reguardless of what happens here it will be something major to watch for the whole US and an early congrats to those who end up having a White Christmas this year when normally they dont.

Oh one thing that I have learned is When they call for snow here it will not happen. Now we will sit and watch to see what happens. It would be cool to have a white Christmas. I would be the bigs kid out there in it and I am a granny of 2 and one on the way on Jan6th

We had thunder here in PA also, so will join the watch for the 20th of Dec.

December thunderstorms rather rare here, appreciate the folklore, I keep track of such sayings.

Sometimes, this folklore is very true ... and sometimes, in extreme cases, 10 hours away, or sooner (w/thundersnow situations.)

Reason being, sometimes with very dynamic storm systems, such as what we had last night, a vigorous s/w, 500mb low on the backlash can wrap around some snowfalls (which is progged to happen in the W NC mountains enhanced by upsloping on the Western Side starting late tonight, and into Saturday...)

We've had thunder and flashes here in Spartanburg tonight 3 or four hours after the frontal passage. Thought that was somewhat strange.
We'll be waiting for snow on the 20 also

Upsloping event about to unfold ... may be raw with low clouds in the Spartanburg area later tonight/tomorrow, but I don't expect anything appreciable ...

Nope ... sorry, man ... I'm a dude. found this pic somewhere on the internet, and since she's wearing leather, I had to save it ... BTW, I met a 27 year old blonde at the Sevendust show that sorta looks like her (except Shannon had a lot of tattoos, which actually looked really cool ...)

We had both thunder and lightning today. Thunder early this morning, and quite the lightning show on my drive home around 5 pm. Hope this folk saying holds true for us!

Well, no snow for us, but hopefully at least a low on Christmas Eve less than 40, and a high on Christmas of less than 60. I doubt it though.

Well time is getting close we are 11 days out and it looks as if the south EC of NC will not have a white Christmas. I was wishing for it cause my son will be here from Fla and the 24th is his 16 th birthday. and I am a big kid. What can I say? :wink:
