What is THIS?

OK....I've been following the weather for some time, a weather GENIUS I'm NOT, I know enough to get around BUT....what the heck is a REX BLOCK? This is from this mornings NAFD NWS/NOAA FLAG:

GFS AND ECMWF CURRENTLY SHOW THE LOW RETROGRADING TO OFF THE BAJA COAST BY SATURDAY WITH A REX BLOCK PATTERN OVER THE WEST COAST. THIS IS A MAJOR CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS RUNS. FOR NOW WILL GO WITH CURRENT MODEL CONSENSUS OF DRY WX FOR THE LATER PERIODS. DF

Its when a Strong Low Pressure Trough usually cut-off sits in adjacent with a strong ridge. Creating a backwards S shape in the winds. Everything is forced around it causing a blocking pattern. The ridge is fixed to the north of the trough. They usually never move because the wind flow rotates around the backwards S.

Read wxguy25's discussion - he just posted about all types of blocking a couple of days ago. :) This looks to be a perfect example of a rex block.

Thanks for the info Zack....I can't ever remember seeing this Rex Block before, it threw me for a loop, which BTW is EASY these days LOL!
