A VERY sad day on the mountain (caution, very graffic)
This could very well be one of the sadest days in recent memory on this mountain.....a 5 year old little girl in Show Low was literally torn limb from limb by "3 PIT BULL DOGS" yesterday. I cannot release any further info until the press is notified on this matter. Michelle and I were called for possible backup as it took ALL 12 officers from Show Low PD to respond to the scene last evening, Pinetop PD, along with WMAT Police were used for backup traffic officers for Show Low while the scene was secured, the dogs shot and the dogs owners were taken into custody. This was the second attack by the same dogs, needless to say, the dogs were shot on the spot and Involuntary Manslaughter charges were filed against the owners. I have never heard officers literally break down and cry over the air.......the screams could be heard. Sorry for such graffic details but people need to KNOW that Pit Bulls (sorry Ed....I know how you feel about them) or ANY dogs for that matter, can be KILLERS!!!

OK....it's be released to the press already, not the whole story, this is this afternoons net version of the paper, it will be a full article tomorrow. Also note, the article states that the dogs are still alive and in "custody"
they aren't, they're gone!

The victim's name was not immediately released by police.
Roby said investigators were talking with the dog's owner Monday night and detectives also were consulting with the Navajo County Attorney's Office about possible charges.

I agree Linda, there are SOME pits that are wonderful family dogs, like I said, and I'm NOT pointing out just PITS, "ANY" dog can turn bad, just depends on the owner!

I'm sure Dennis that those dogs will probably be put down after this incident.
I always liked the saying "there's no bad pets, just bad owners". I can't imagine how horrible the scene was and prayers are going out to that girl's family.
I'm glad that the owners of those dogs are being booked for involuntary manslaughter!

I can't blame ya one bit, those dogs probably will be put down. Sad news really.
The shots that were fired were those of a tranquilizing gun.......the latest, they WILL be put down tomorrow.

Dennis - I read that article. The owner allowed these 3 dogs to roam the neighborhood! They attacked another dog in the past. It wasn't as if these dogs became untied or got out of their fenced in yard, they were permitted to run around loose, according to the article. The dogs need to be put down, that's clear. But the owner needs to have involuntary homicide charged possibly brought up too. To allow your dogs to just roam around in this day and age, and clearly they were not trained well, is very negligent.
Just wish the little girl's dad could have gotten to her sooner.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one... There are plenty of stories out there where a "supposedly gentle" pit bull reacted on instinct and out of character only to have the end result be the tragic end of some child's life. I surely won't allow my grandchild to be anywhere near one. Many will say that's over-reacting, but I say consider the history of the breed. Even one unprovoked attack on a harmless child is too many...

The aggressive dog considers the attack to be "provoked"
if the child, or, whatever/whomever comes close to it's
territory or the bone/food that it has buried. That's
it's nature. It doesn't even acknowledge the human's
"property lines", when allowed to run loose. They pick
their own territory, in this case, which, unknowing to you,
may include your own yard.

One of the saddest stories I've ever heard.. I love children and I love dogs. I know some folks have these animals for pets, my sister has a full blooded pit and I'm so afraid that he'll turn on her one day. The only safe Pit you'll see will have a responsible owner, who knows what his animal is capable of.

I hope they throw the book at the owner. I feel terrible for the girl and her family.
My son was attacked by a dog too when he was in kindergarten. For the life of me I don't know how he got away to come running home. It must have been God helping him, because it had him down and was on top of him biting at his face. He has a big scar on his cheek that he'll have the rest of his life. Every time I think of this, I get shivers.
Dogs, guns, motorcycles, hunting knives, lawnmowers, bathtubs!
Life is full of hazards - what can you do?
