NWS Mobile AFD: Single-digit wind chills Monday Morning

#1 Postby Brent » Wed Dec 15, 2004 2:59 pm

I'm 250 miles north... I shudder to think about how cold here.

.EXTENDED...ANOTHER STRONG...ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM (1030-1040 MB)
IS FORECAST TO SURGE INTO THE REGION LATE IN THE WEEKEND. STRONG
COLD AIR ADVECTION PROCESSES AND LOWERING THICKNESSES BRINGS THE
POTENTIAL OF A HARD FREEZE SITUATION ONCE AGAIN...AS LATEST GUIDANCE
PLUMMETS AREA LOWS INTO THE TEENS EARLY MONDAY MORNING OVER THE
INTERIOR AND INTO THE LOWER 20S ALL THE WAY TO NEAR THE COAST.
STRONG...BLUSTERY NORTHERLY WINDS COULD LOWER WIND CHILLS INTO THE
SINGLE DIGITS AS WELL MONDAY MORNING. BRRR.... COLD/DRY CONDITIONS
PREVAIL THRU TUESDAY. A MODERATING TREND IS FORECAST INTO THE MIDDLE
OF THE WEEK AS LOW PRESSURE FORMS INTO EAST TEXAS AND TRACKS
EASTWARD. SOUTHERLY FLOW AND A RECOVERY OF ATMOSPHERIC MOISTURE SETS
IN AHEAD OF THE LOW WEDNESDAY...BRINGING THE POTENTIAL OF
THUNDERSTORMS. /10

Here's your confirmation, Brent....at least for the moment. The weekend forecast has been updated:

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 56. Calm wind becoming east southeast around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Calm wind.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming north northwest between 5 and 10 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 35. North northwest wind around 5 mph.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 57. West northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 32. West northwest wind between 5 and 15 mph.

Sunday: A slight chance of drizzle. Partly cloudy, with a high near 50. North northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of drizzle before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph.

Looks to be a challenging forecast. Clearly the temps and the precip could be problematic. Strong cold air advection pouring in Sunday evening, and a slight chance of drizzle.....wouldn't be too terribly surprised to see this become a slight chance of snow flurries (less than 0.5 mm in width precip) for the northern parts of the CWA. Things are changing quickly. It looks like someone opened the freezer door up in the North.

Edited to add: The forecast is from NWS Mobile.

Our high today was 35. Our low tonight will be around 15. Thats very cold, however Monday will be very cold again here too. Currently forecasted 18, my gut says possibly single digits/below zero.

Of course, 15 minutes later the mention of precipitation is taken out of the forecast. Gah.
