New Report Cards

#1 Postby coriolis » Wed Apr 16, 2003 7:26 pm

Our kids got their report cards today. This year, the schools have a new system of grading. They give out 1,2,3, or 4 (highest) instead of A,B,C, etc. A 4 means "advanced - superior acedemic performance." A 3 is "proficient - satisfactory academic performance." A 2 is "Basic - marginal academic performance." A 1 is "below basic - inadequate academic performance."

What an innovation! I don't know how we got an education when all we had was A's B's and C's.

How may focus groups, studies, reports, high level meetings, and draft plans did it take before this amazing advance was perfected? Is this what what our tax dollars are being spent on? And they want more money spent on education? How about getting some people in there that have some sense and spend our money wisely?

It's probably so they can be easily added up without substituting numbers. I agree it's a very minor and almost pointless change. The number system, though, has been in use for a while as I understand it.

Additionally, many schools have honors and AP classes which allow up to 5 or 6 points of credit for an A and 4 or 5 for a B, and so on. It would be easier to have just one system.

Our system has its own "gematriya"; the student gets both a numerical and an alphabetical grade, shown side-by-side.

I would never understand a number system. I don't even understand plain A B C D F systems. I only like A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc. type grading systems. ;)

you think that's bad...come to UWGB.

We have A, AB, B, BC, C, D, F...along side of the gpa value. Don't even ask about the point ranges!! That's 10x worse!

GPA values: (for standard 3 credit course)
A=4.0, AB=3.5, B=3.0, BC=2.5, C=2.0, D=1.0 and F= 0.0
