When do you start "barefooting"

It's mid April, and here in metro Atlanta, it's finally time to kick off the shoes and relax. I'm barefooting tonight, as are my neighbors both up and down the circle.

When does barefooting begin in your area (or does it ever end?) Until she moved away from the south, Becky would go barefoot even in the dead of winter on occasion. Sis says she gets some strange looks in Oregon strolling barefoot to her mailbox in chilly weather, but "once a Georgia girl, always a Georgia girl" :lol:

Here, "barefooting" is an INDOOR sport..there be sand burrs, broken glass, "puppy peanuts" and a host of hazards out there that beg for steel-shank-soled boots!

"LOL!" Puppy peanuts! Same here, too many pine needles to stick in your feet.

I do barefoot in the summer. Not as much now since I don't go outside as much as I used to. I never minded the pine needles and such. It was part of the experience.

Bonnie, my grandmother's always been the same way....as long as I can remember, and dad rarely goes barefoot outside (Becky and me must have inherited our barefootin' from mom :lol:

My "Tom Sawyer" days ended when I was 9, and stepped on a board that had a nail in it...which impaled my foot. :o

Nothing less than combat boots from then on for ME....

I've stepped on broken glass, etc; and I still abrefoot ... even on rainy days. I even wear shorts on rainy days. :o

Here and there ... but like StreetSoldier (fortunately, mine was only a near-miss on stepping on a rusty nail - but getting attacked by thousands of fire ants when I was 5 wasn't pretty).

I still do the barefoot thing only when I am just going to smoke and not leave the cemented veranda of the house or the pathway to the driveway, otherwise, it's still shoes for me ... like a lot here said, too many sand-burrs and also insects, and I don't want to step on those hiding bees!.

I quit barefooting when I got to be about 18 - now my daughter she is doing it now - doesn't want to wear socks or shoes and have to beg her to wear sandals. I too have stepped on rusty nails - how is this - I stepped on a board with two nails at once - I still have the scars on the bottom of my foot. I wear socks on my feet all year long. LOL I think its a sign of old age hehehehehe.

I can't stand wearing shoes! I love to barefoot all year...The only time I wear shoes is when I go jogging or go to work or school. If I'm at home, no shoes are on my feet

We STOP barefooting when the temp hits about 100 for the 3rd day in a row (probably in early May)...then we start again sometime in October.

Other than that..during the summer we can barefoot on the "cool deck" around the pool, but even that is hot if the feet aren't wet.

IF, by mistake, you barefoot unto the hot pavement under a 110-degree sunny day, you learn how to move so quickly to a shady spot that no more than one toe on each foot touches the ground for the entire trip...even if that is a block away!

I stopped going barefoot outside when I found out that you can get "hookworms." Let me explain... if you have a stray dog roaming or a neighbor who does not bother to vaccinate their pet and it runs loose, does its duty in your yard and the dog has hookworms and you step in dog poo that has the worms then you will be in big trouble. Not to mention that your dog can pick them up too.

Sorry folks, I just meant barefooting around the yard. I don't venture off the property without flip flops or sneakers myself (except sometimes to a neighbors yard/driveway).

Heck, even "barefoot Becky" wears sandals to the store (sis will kill me if she ever reads this...LOL!)

That's just about me. My Mom says I didn't wear shoes on a regular basis till I started school. I've always been more comfortable barefooted. I've had nails and shards of glass rip my feet and I still barefoot. I often wear sandals or flip-flops if I can get away with it.
