06z gfs a better hit of snow Houston, TX east to Mobile, AL

Gotta admit this is getting a little out of hand especially from New Orleans over to Mobile, AL and all points inbetween along the gulfcoast.

Going by this run It spits out what would amount to a major snowstorm for the Gulfcoast with the highest amounts over into se LA/MS and AL.


My best guestaments from this run would be 4-8 from Houston over to New Orleans and from there 8 to 12+ over into MS, AL immediate gulfcoast.

then further east same system. And take note that this as well is showing snow along the gulfcoast of TX down almost to Brownsville!!!

Looks better for me as well... I'm now in the moderate to heavy snow at Midnight Christmas Eve with light snow still at Noon.

question I have is will that storm be able to ride the coast and bring snow up the eastern seaboard?

Yes... see Blizzard of 1993.

I'm NOT saying it's a repeat of that, I'm just saying the setup is similar.

yes I remember the super storm 93 well, but their is no way this is anything like that, I mean that was the storm of the century.

my only worry is with all that cold air, it will supress the storm to the south, and never make it north of the mason dixon line.

and the problem with that is? :lol:

The last time this area had a decent snowfall was January 2-3, 2002 when 6-8" blanketed the area. The setup is VERY similar. In 2002, South and East Alabama and into GA got dumped on while North and most of Central Alabama got nothing or very little.

Brent,

Did you see that on the James Spann update? I saw his morning update, and he discussed the similarity with the setup next week. Of course it is way too early to make a call, but it would not surprise me if something big develops in the gulf next week. Also, DT mentioned the potential for a deep south winter storm as well in the 12/24-12/25 time frame. I love those classic Miller A storms!! :D

I am still in shock about hearing about this winter storm that is about to set up! I really do hope it happens... Does anyone know the approximate amount of snow that the houston area could get? You know, I would be happy with just seeing snow falling out of the sky! I forgot what it looks like! Hopefully as time gets closer to Christmas, the modles wont flip flop... I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

Hey Yankeegirl, go read KingofWeather's thread near the top. He has some early guesstimate predictions that are pretty interesting. He said anywhere from 4-8 inches from Houston to New Orleans.

Looks like the biggest part of the prcip will stay off shore, with only light precip inland.
