Though Omaha's ZFP has a slight snow chance in for Wednesday night - Thursday morning, I would not get your hopes up high.

ON THE OTHER HAND... with TEMPERATURES...it will most likely definetely FEEL like Christmas!!!

I wouldn't rule out a chance for snow mid week next week here in the central plains. I realize the models don't show anything currently, but we are still 4-5 days out. One possibility is with the passing of the arctic front Tuesday-we could get some when it passes or just the cold squeezing out what moisture there is thru the day Wedneseday(we are progged to be in the lower 50's on Monday so there will be moisture in the air) Another possibility is the low developing to our south west. Currently that seems to stay way south and that would make sense considering the hugh push of arctic air comming down. However, in 2000 we had the same set up-the low was in Louisiana but pumped enough moisture northward to give us 8 inches. I'm still giving the central plains a 30% chance of having some white stuff on the ground by Saturday-it may only be a dusting, but there is a chance. To be honest, all you can ask for is a chance-there is no doubt, that this week is much better than last week weather wise. By the way, by next Monday, the GFS is developing a massive zonal flow with my temps in the 50's for the whole week before New Years-so it seems I better enjoy this week!!!

I think my part of the Midwest will definitely be in for a white Christmas. First of all, an unusual lake effect band will set up tomorrow from Lake Michigan (N-S orientation means long fetch over the warm lake) so heavy snow showers will make it this far south. It rarely happens here (maybe once every 5-10 years) so it's pretty exciting. Tomorrow will be miserable here though with winds gusting to 40 mph and temps in the low teens means wind chills will be well below zero. Blizzard conditions may be possible near the Lakes as well.

Moving onto Tuesday-Thursday, the second arctic intrusion may be interesting for my travels home to Louisville. As energy digs into the southwestern US and sends pieces east and northeast, the front will become active with heavy overrunning precip to the north of the front. That means heavy SNOW may be possible for Louisville and Cincinnati somewhere in that time frame - it will all depend on where the front sets up, and just how much upper level energy comes out of the SW US. Should be a fun week for this part of the Midwest/Ohio Valley.
