The elderly are most susceptible, along with children and very lean people.

You and Stephanie GOT IT 8-) Yes, it is Floridians for the exact reason you said! Floridians do not know how to dress in layers.....when y'all get cold, you put on a jacket, say you start to work, excerise etc, your body core temp rises, you take off your coat and BAM....your core temp is still up but your skin temp is rapidly dropping thus leading to hypothermia....Now WE ALL learned something here!

That's why the illegals began dropping like flies here in Cochise County during our late November/early December cold spell-they come from a warmer climate and have no idea as to how cold those washes they like to skulk along can get this time of year. When I hit the teens at the house, that area along the San Pedro River is dropping down into the singles. Also too, hypothermia can occur at temperatures not all that cold.
The survival time in the cold waters of the Pacific off NoCA (SSTs in the upper 40's to mid 50's) is not very long for someone not specifically properly outfitted for being in those waters.
