to be rain? All the major forecasting centers have AL and MS covered in rain for Dec 22-23 instead of the much hoped for snow. This sucks.

Thats the first event. Yes that one will be all rain.

The real event is on Christmas eve into Christmas day. And if the 12z GFS is right then in Atlanta it will be Snow to Freezing rain back to Snow on Christmas. But its still a long way out and will change over and over the next 29 runs.

Look at the Day 7 run (Christmas Day) all day - check the 150 hour, 156 hour, 162 hour and 168 hour runs. They all show the Zero Line way into the Gulf and with moisture back over LA, MS, AL, GA, TN, et al. I'm not buying it per se', but I would enjoy a white Christmas if we got one.

Well its just too far out to make a valid forecast at this point. Unless things make a 180 in the next day or so, it looks like we may still see this scenario play out. How much snow? How far south? Nobody can say right now. Its all purely speculation at this point. The latest gfs continues to show the cold in place, with significant overrunning Christmas eve. Someone will see snow, we just can't say who at this time..........Here's hoping for everyone in the deep south to see a white Christmas. Have a great day everyone..And keep those fingers crossed.
