I use an older Whistler, probably about six years old, but still does most everything the newer ones do. When it dies, I'll probably go to either of the two you're talking about or the Passport. I'm leaning towards the Bel because it's about $100-$150 cheaper than the other two and performs comparably in all the tests, except for laser, where it's not as good. Laser detection is almost useless, anyway -- if they hit you with it, it doesn't matter how good your radar detector is.

I stay within 5 mph and have never been pulled over for speeding. Was once pulled over a month after I got my driver's license. I turned from a wrong lane , ran a 3-way stop sign, didn't have my registration in the car and was skipping school with some friends. When the officer pulled me over I started bawling (my parents had just divorced and I was all emotional and acting out in rebellion) so he just gave me a ticket for running the stop sign. A sheriff deputy from my home town gave me the money to pay the ticket so my parents never got notified. The deputy, still to this day (33 yrs later), teases me and tells me I at least owe him a doughnut and some coffee for saving my sorry butt.

Sure doesn't. Back in 1996 on New Year's Eve, I was heading to Hattiesburg. My Whistler went off but not until I got up on the state trooper. He wrapped my ticket up in my license and told me Happy Holidays.
