Start new (volunteering) job tomorrow! :D

#1 Postby Skywatch_NC » Sun Dec 19, 2004 3:54 pm

Just want to let everywxone know that tomorrow I won't be online during the day...FINALLY have landed a very nice volunteer job at the state environmental building in Raleigh where my Dad is employed in the water quality division!! :D My Dad informed me (this past Wednesday) of a department secretary who would very much appreciate some help in the filing area...I've already gotten some experience late this past week for a while on Thursday and Friday night...employees are allowed access to the bldg. after-hours...anyway, I'll be handling DMR's (discharge monitoring reports), permits, etc., starting tomorrow...it will start out to at least one day a week for a while...possibly two days or so...as Charlene whom I'll work with needs assistance! :) I'll be working 7:30 am to 4:30 pm ET!

Wish me LUCK!! :D Prayers would be nice, too, in that I'm kinda nervous...but that's to be expected with any new job and training...and volunteering at least brings about some great experience!! :D

My sister Retha sent me an email earlier with some advice: :D

You may want to wear hand lotion to do filing in the winter. It is very easy to get paper cuts--which really hurt! Our boss in NY made sure we kept our hands from drying out because of all the filing we had to do each day. She asked us if we had put lotion on before filing.

Wise sister there! :)

Great news Eric! I'm sure you'll do great. I was a file clerk for a short time at the doctor's office I worked at years ago. It's a quiet type job, we could even play the radio. No ringing phones....no testy sick patients to pacify....then I switched to the receptionist job and I longed for the filing job back! Once they figured out I could handle a 9 line phone, scheduling appts., signing patients in, taking payments....well, no amount of pleading on my part to go back to that quiet filing office would work!!! So I think you will really like it.

Wishing you the best!

Mary

My job is going wonderfully!! :D

I've learned really fast about sorting out discharge monitoring reports (Charlene the dept. secretary has taught me well about filing!)...first I sort out the reports by county and then later by name of business and permit number and then into an accordion file before being put into their respective drawers! :D I did that on Monday...DMR's (as they're known by) come in like once every 2 to 3 months...BUT...there's plenty of other filing, too, like with permit reports which I worked with on Tuesday...they're a bit more of a challenge...BUT am always UP for a challenge and learning experience!! :D I'll be working at least one day a week and possibly two depending on Charlene's schedule and what help she needs...she's a real sweet gal to work with and my Dad's other co-workers are really great, too! :D It's just very nice to get out of the house and also an answer to prayer since I don't drive that much here in the capital county of NC and it's nice carpooling with Dad! :) I also made some copies (1-sided and 2-sided sets) for Charlene on Tuesday and my experience from having worked at a UCP-Easter Seals of NC Copymatic center helped out VERY much as I remembered quickly what I learned from my supervisor there at that place named Lela! :D I worked there for 4 years due to my having Asperger Syndrome (high-functioning autism).
