Cent. FL to Houston Weds/Thurs?

#1 Postby JenyEliza » Mon Dec 20, 2004 9:52 pm

Ok...I have a (maybe stupid) question.

My folks are leaving the Debary, FL area for SE Texas early Weds am. They plan to go I-10 W to Pensacola and stay for the night. Then up early Thursday with plans to drive I-10 W to I-12 W to I-10 W to I-610 N to 290 West, to TX 6 North into College Station.

Is this safely do-able with the upcoming weather?

Thanks in advance for any help....

No snow to worry about... but there may be some heavy rain and strong storms, especially Wednesday.

Thanks, Brent. I was concerned about the possiblities of severe weather--either Thundershowers or showers of the frozen variety. Either way, it's a long, long drive and I want them to be safe. I'll be staying tuned...with a particular eye to the timing of expected weather and the route they'll be taking.

There is a possibility that they may run into some slippery type of precip as they come into Texas on Thursday afternoon. It is really still to early to tell, but it appears to be becoming more of a possibility as we get closer to that time. Not sure on the timing of the Severe that could be preceeding the arriving front on Wednesday. It is due through here mid morning Wednesday which could put it into the P'cola area after they have stopped, depending on the time the get there. Best thing to do is to really take a close look later tomorrow.

I'll be paying close attention to the weather in their path over the coming days. It is possible that they could leave earlier to avoid bad weather, but hate to pull the trigger on that just yet, since they're not quite ready to hit the road.

If it looks more likely early tomorrow, I'll give them the head's up that it would be a good idea to get on the road--if they're planning to get there without weather difficulties to contend with.

Thanks for your help!
