Brisk Walk!!

#1 Postby sertorius » Thu Dec 23, 2004 7:28 am

Just returned from my morning workout-very brisk this morning-North wind at about 10-15 MPH with temp. at 6 degrees-awesome walk!!! I was just one lair short!!!! Will be cold today as we have one more shot of cold air then the warm up begins tomorrow-20 on Friday, 35 on Saturday, 55 by Sunday!!! But man was this morning great-it may not look like X-mass, but it sure feels like it!! NWS is not buying the GFS solution of pulling the low out of SW so fastt so look for a warm week in the Central Plains. Stay safe in the Ohio Valley-what an incredible show put on by nature!!

At 7 a.m. it is 23 degrees at my house in north Austin.

Pretty cold by our standards. No precip but plenty cold.

When I let the dog out, he spent a minute outside, comes running back to the sliding glass door and gives me the "Are you nuts? Let me in!" look!

Cookiely, Only another deep southerner could understand your Moms thinking. LOL.............I tell most folks that the minute the temps drop below 70 we have the fireplace lit. But look on the flip side...........we can handle 102 while 90's creates total devastation up north. A friend of ours who is a recent transplant from PA still cannot get over the fact that our floors and interior walls are not insulated much less the fact that our cars don't plug in to prevent freezing. She just barely survived our summer and now realizes we didn't need those things.

Yea, it's cold here but nothing real serious-if there were snow and it would last a week or more, then you would be talking about something. Not so for folks east of here-they have a true serious situation-but for the central plains, this is pretty normal once or twice a winter. Over all, we are not in a good pattern for the cnetral plains and it really doesn't look to change much soon. Next weekend may offer something as it seems the trough in the west nudges closer to us but the over all pattern is still one of cold shots for 1-2 days and then significant warm up. The pattern is also quite dry as the storm track gets pushed south with the cold shots. I fear we may be heading back to our drought situation as this is the pattern we had from 2001-2003. Still plenty of winter left and to be honest, 2 weeks of winter weather pretty much makes a winter here in the central plains-heck my average high is still 41 degrees!! Enough rambling for now-good luck to those in the Ohio Valley-that is where the attention should stay as they are in a real serious situation!!

I miss those brisk walks and runs in the cold. I was in the military in the late 80's and early 90's, and they used to make us run in 40 degree weather. It was freakin cold..

One last note: we do see several days in July/August with temps. above 100 and 85% humidity. In fact, crazy as it may seem, Lawrence has been the hot spot of the nation once a summer for the past 3 years!! I would rather it be 10 below zero and winds howling than 105 with 80% humidity!!!

In Tampa it is 69 but it feels warmer than that, and the humidity is 90%. Its miserable. The forecast through the weekend is lousy. I will settle for mid 50's Christmas with partly cloudy instead of rain.
