Does anyone think southeast Louisiana will get snow?

#1 Postby cajungal » Thu Dec 23, 2004 10:59 am

I live 60 miles southwest of New Orleans. I heard that a Low is supposed to develop in the Gulf for Christmas Eve. Does anyone think we may finally see snow? Weather channel is only giving 30% rain showers for the local forecast. While accuweather is giving some snow for our local area. I have not seen snow since I was 13 years old down here. Every year I get so excited everytime there is a possibility for any snow here. But, every year I am let down because nothing ever seems to happen. What do you guys think? Merry Christmas!

I hope we see something. But, 30% is such a low chance that I doubt that anything will happen. The last time we saw any snow here I was only 13. And I am 28 now. So, that is quite a long time. It rarely even sleets here. Nothing ever interesting weather wise ever happens here. Just boring rain and boring sunny skies.

Dont listen to brent, he is just jealous. I think you have a decent shot at seeing some white stuff but i am not sure if it'll make it to christmas day considering the warm ground temps.

Good luck.

LOL!

To be honest I AM sick of EVERYONE BUT US getting snow while we get rain. It's downright ridiclous that the coast may get snow and we won't. :grr:

It looks like a mixed bag later Friday or Friday night. Hopefully it does snow there whether it accumulates or is falling snow. It's quite a rare thing to have that far south and I give you my best of luck.

Merry XMAS to you cajungal!!! Good to hear from you again. :D

Yeah, my mom and dad are going to Picayune, MS to see my grandparents for Christmas Eve and Christmas. I doubt they will see anything. I am sticking it out over here for Christmas because of work. I hope our snow drought is finally broken. The closest we ever had to a white Christmas was December 23, 1989. About an inch fell. Our pipes busted as well. We had a lot of damage to our house.

We live fairly close to the coast. So, it is rare. The right ingredients got to come together. But, I am glad I don't live in Minnesota right now. I will take Louisiana boring weather over -23 degrees below zero they are experiencing right now. BRRRRRRRRR

If you are right on the coast I think you stand a better chance than places further inland. You'll have to battle warmer temps down there though.

I'm partial to helping the cajuns out since the QB of my football team is a thoroughbred cajun(jake delhomme).

Its now a thing that will happen or won't happen.

Whats the use of using models this close to the event. Watch the satellites.

Uh, didn't I see a post by you YESTERDAY recapping all the .5, 1" and 2" snows you've had over the years? In my entire lifetime (and I'm 40), we've never had even an inch of snow here. There were 4.64" in 1963, but I wasn't born yet. I realize you're wanting some snow, but you get it from time to time, while most of us do not.

As for Jake Delhomme, yeah, I realize he's a Cajun thru and thru. But he doesn't hunt and fish which is pretty rare for Acadians. His family is involved with breeding horses I believe down there in Breaux Bridge (home of Cafe Des Amis - mmmmmm).

I just got back from the Panamanian Consulate at the World Trade Center on the Mississippi River. It's COLD outside with howling winds. Brrrr.

From experience here in Baton Rouge: If snow is in the forecast, you can bet that it won't occur. The best option would be for snow to be eliminated from our forecast. Then it might happen.

Yeah, you are right. I remember just a few years ago when the precentace of snow was as high as 60%. I got all excited. But, it was a big let down. Nothing fell from the sky that day. Not even sleet.

BTW... that was a prediction of what I think will happen honestly, not a wishcast.
