The real problems beginning now...
Just got a note across my wire subscriptions that sporadic power outages are coming in now across Kentucky in areas where ice has been the heaviest. Apparently the town of Bardstown is completely without power with significant tree damage. Not good folks... not good!

I just read this message out of Bardstown as well, those areas have seen pure freezing rain for hours on end, so I imagine once the wind kicks in behind the low, there will be some major outages across much of AR, KY, TN, OH and IN.
Meanwhile, 10 minutes ago we had sleet and freezing rain w/ a few snowflakes mixed in - I noticed there was no sound of pellets hitting the window and looked out side - BAM - very heavy snow with visibility near 1/4 - 1/2 mile. It's 15 out in the back yard and getting slightly windier.
Salem, IN, only about 20-25 minutes away now has 19" of snow w/ heavy snow reported - they will DEFINITELY see over 2 feet by the time the night is over. We had about 8 before the sleet began, and I expect 6-10" to fall over night. Will definitely be out w/ my camera tomorrow taking pictures, but doubt I'll get far since there is a state of emergency and most roads will be impassable. What a wonderful white Christmas this will be!

Not bad until you lose power. Growing up way out in the country, we would lose power every time we would get a snow pretty much. I remember some long nights with family. That was back before technology and weather took over my life. lol I don't know what I would do now if we had to go very many hours without power. I wouldn't have any model data or radar loops to analyze.

When I see ice on the trees - technology or no - this old
girl STILL fills up every bucket and container that she
has with extra water! Plus, I have extra drinking water stored,
Clorox/vinegar jugs washed and fresh with water, kerosene
for the heater, instant coffee....canned food....ahhhhhhh....
I'm ready!

Power outages are never fun.
Still vividly remember the week without power after the 1994 ice storm here, not to mention last summer's wind storm.
I was very concerned about the freezing rain yesterday, fortunately enough it was just sleet, and a lot of it. If all that sleet was freezing rain, it would have been 1994 all over again I think. I wish it would have turned to all snow, I was hopeful it was changing early on, but didn't last long. Would have been a good 6-12" at least, but spare me the big problems there having up there.

Well, we got ice. This morning's snow showers have laid
a dusting on top of it. The main street that runs through
town was cleared, this morning, so, I decided that heading
out to work was reasonable - until I turned onto Hwy 43
North! Where's the SALT, guys??? I went about a quarter
of a mile, and, headed back for home! We actually didn't
get as much as West TN and Northern TN did - a lot of
those folks are without power. The ice is hanging from the
power lines, and, trees are bending from the stress - I
hope our power stays on!

Sounds like a cane season here in FL except my a/c does not run on kerosene.... Stay warm Breeze
