See... we average about 2" a year here though.

I think I got spoiled by the 90's. A very snowy time. The Blizzard of 1993, An Upper Level Low in 1998 dropping a surprise big snow, A bust, but it still snowed in January 2000(was supposed to snow more). An inch of snow on 12/17/2000 after the Tuscaloosa F4 tornado the day before... another inch on 12/19 when there was still patchy snow from the event 2 days earlier. About 2 inches of snow on New Year's Day 2001, and then the January 2002 event. Sure, they aren't big snows, but they are SOMETHING each season(I may have missed some between 1993 and 1998, my memory isn't as good).

This winter is still only a day old, KC. Be patient, Brent & KC. You'll get snow.

YES...BRAVO!!

this is probably the most sensible post I have seen in quite some time regarding winter.

As for Brent, and KC...you both need to calm down. Seriously, this moaning about snow is getting old. Last time I checked winter doesn't end on DEC 24.

The best chance of wintry precip in the south is in February, then January. It does not occur much in December.

The best chance to have wintry precip is to have the NWS and local mets not to forecast it.

People would be happier not to have wintry precip predicted and then to happen than to have it put in the forecast and not to occur.

The latest snow that I can recall, happened on the first week of April 1987. We got a couple inches in the northern section of southeast La. It rained all night, no sleet , nothing........then all of a sudden it the temp dropped to the low 30's and it all changed to snow. Snow in April in La . Never forget it.

Here in Baton Rouge in 1968 we had two days of snow around March 19-20. I was only 8 at the time, but I recall it was right around the first day of spring. I remember making a snowman on the first day of the snow. We had school on the second day and our teacher used black construction paper to collect the snow and show us the crystals. Only problem was that the temperatures were probably in the 30's and not conducive for the type of snow to show the classic crystals.

Good pest Kelly.

Last time we saw snow here on the MS Gulf Coast was December 18th, 1996.

You would probably feel the same way if you were in my situation. No snow for THREE years now and that was one where the biggest snow was SOUTH of me. Only an inch fell then while areas to my south(not the way it's supposed to be here) got buried. It's not fair. :(

Honestly I'd tell you to grow up. if you want to whine about 3 years of no snow imagine the kids of S LA and SE tx. They have never seen snow and now they might on christmas day of all days.

Whoa friend...chill out.
Brent is a good friend of mine, and all he did was point out what the 00z ETA proggs.

I'll honestly be surprised if any measurable snow falls anywhere along the Gulf coast. I'm not happy about it, but thats just the way it is...snow is very rare any time along the Gulf coast. The odds of one of those rare instances occurring on Christmas Day has to be a million to one shot; IMO a once in 1000+ yr event.

Look at it this way: I'm in Atlanta, and there's NEVER been a measurable white Christmas here...not in 130 yrs, and it's much more likely to occur in a city that averages 2" snow a winter than in areas such as Mobile, New Orleans, or Galveston that average less than 2" a decade.

PW

I think you might have missed his post on another website Perry. I wouldnt have assailed him if I didnt think his attitude was extremley petty and juvenile. Personally I am very happy for the people of SE Tx and the gulf coast. I know me and you will have our shots at some winter precip several times this winter so this isnt that bad.

As a matter of fact I did a search and found the quote..
I don't care if they have some flurries... but if anyone down there gets accumulation I'm really going to be fuming.

Happy holidays Perry.

I dont ever remember it looking like a blizzard for GA. It did look like a few inches on that day but nothing like what would happen farther north.

Well The FFC had put out an AFD saying that the trend were pointing to possible redevelopment of the snow shield...which never happened by the way....And said winds were going to get up very high and that if the redevelopment did happen 4-10" could fall. And that they would have to put up a blizzard warning.

Hmmm.... I would of been 10 years old in April 1987. (2 months away from turning 11.) We missed out that event;too. No snow or sleet or anything. I am 28 and seen snow only twice down here in Louisiana in my lifetime. Once was in December 23, 1989. And the other was in February in 1993 I believe.
