Sorry, No Snow

#1 Postby jeff » Thu Dec 23, 2004 4:12 pm

For the snow lovers and the kids that have not seen snow since 1989 it appears the wait will continue.

Arctic high pressure continues to build into the area and will be reinforced later tonight. Dewpoints in the low teens and single digits will spread into the area from the north. Upper level short wave over Mexico will induce isentropic lifting over the area tonight through Friday night. Clouds and moisture will increase, but mainly above 6000ft. Very dry air below 6000ft to the surface with evaporate much of what falls. If we could somehow saturate the lower levels then we could get all kinds of precip, but the chances of that happening are now less than 20%.

Cold core low comes across Friday night and Saturday AM and we may see some flurries with that as any moisture is squeezed out.

Hard freeze both tonight and Friday night with temps only recovering to near 35 on Friday. Such an extended period below freezing will cause some problems with pipes and even sheltered and covered plants. We have not seen such an extended period of freezing temps since the brutal cold of 1989, but temps will be several degrees warmer than the all time record low of 7 back then.

For those that like probabilities, the chance for snow is now at 20% and I suppose if you stare at the sky long enough you may see a flurry or two.

Extended: temps back into the 70's by Tuesday as the arctic high is dislodged and sent to the east coast.

And Yes this includes LA also.

The only place that may see some snow is south of a line from Matagorda Bay to Victoria and then along the lower TX coast. However critical thickness is iffy and accumulations will be very little to not at all.

Oh well....no snow. A Christmas with snow would have been nice but that's not what Christmas is about. Here's to a Christmas day filled with love, family, friends and Jesus (for those who Believe). Merry Christmas everyone!

It was a frigid ice-foggy night and E. Brentwood Scrooge had his faithful employee Tiny "Tiptoes through the tulips" Tim Kratchett working late and burning the midnight oil!! :grrr: :P

(Just a modern-day revised version!)

That's very true! We have 2 kids coming from Tallahassee tonight and Christmas Eve will be cold enough for a fire but if the Kids weren't able to go outside on Christmas Day and play with their toys, we would go stir crazy.
Merry Christmas to all!! :grrr:

NWS now has Pensacola at 30% during the day and down to 20% for Christmas Eve night. This is down from the 50% prediction that lasted for the last 24 hours. Oh well.

Still holding out to just see some snowflakes, not flurries. Flurries are just a tease and I would rather see nothing.

I'm not ready to say it's all over and done with......not until Friday evening anyway, or at least until I can determine the track of that low.

Still 30% POPs here, and that sounds fair to me at the moment. It sure beats 0%.
