Gallbladder - Gone!

#1 Postby coriolis » Thu Dec 23, 2004 9:48 pm

My wife Theresa had her gallbladder taken out today. Everything went well. In at 7:30 AM. Home at 4:00 PM. The wonders of modern laparoscopic surgery! She's in bed resting comfortably (the wonders of percocets!) and hopefully will be back on her feet and able to eat normally again soon.

That's wonderful that everything went so well! However, do not be fooled by how "pretty" the outside looks: They did a lot of work in there and it takes a while to heal. She's going to be pretty tired for several days while the body does its thing to recover. Best wishes for no pain and a very speedy recovery!

Glad everything went WELL Ed.....give her lotsa TLC! She WILL feel a MILLION times better, I had the same thing done 7 years ago, talk about feeling BETTER! She does however have to watch her diet from quite a few months (12-13).....but after that, it's SMOOTH sailing!

Ed - how's your wife doing now? Hopefully, continuing to heal well.

Dennis is correct - her diet is now very important. Unfortunately in my case, I never know if my troubles are from having my GB out or part of my colon removed. But I have read one important tip for GB patients to use - simple, calcium supplements. One patient/member on a WebMD medical board swears by them and occasionally posts for patients that just had their GB out (and are having lots of trouble). This is the product she uses (one with every meal, 3 a day). Now I'm trying them and I do see an improvement. So keep this in mind, if Theresa notices a change (er, umm, will leave it at that!).

Great news Ed!

It sure is quite a different procedure and recovery time now than it used to be.

Donna - it sure is! My mom had her GB out in 1975 and was in the hospital for 10 days! And flat on her back for 7. Now if you do stay overnight, they get you up and moving within 12 hours of any surgery, major or not. A far cry indeed from how surgeries were done and how patients recouperated.

Thanks for all the well wishes everybody. I'll let Theresa know that you're all pulling for her. She's gradually improving, but as the doc said: "you just had major abdominal surgery."
