Check out the La radar and help me please!!

what is all of this precip showing on this radar loop. Could someone please tell me if it is rain or something wintry.

Not sure about a NWS site radar...but Intellicast uses blue for snow and pink for mixed bag.

Primarily virga with some scattered mixed precip. It's still too dry in the lower levels of the atmosphere (= near the surface) for anything. That could change as the wave of low pressure passes to our south tomorrow and possibly spreads a bit of mix. Small shot this morning, some chance today and tonight and maybe a better chance tomorrow according to Gumm on Channel 4 (thanks for the heads up bfez1).

The radar is still set for rain. They can change the reflectivity type i.e base or composite to set the beam for frozen precip. Accuweather is set in a similar fashion, but many times it reflects virga, precip (snow) at altitude but not reaching the surface until the column moistens. Try changing the reflectivity type if possible, it may help. I will try it as well and post it if it works.

This is Intellicast's radar for your area. The blue is snow and the pink is frozen precip. Like stated above, it may not be making it to the ground even though it is showing on the radar.

The Intellicast radar is WAY WAY overblown. 99% of that stuff is not reaching the ground. Best example is the snow it shows from Dauphin Island, AL to south of Macon. NONE is reaching the ground in any form. It's way too dry.

If the big low 36 hours ago had tracked where this one is going... I'd be buried in a foot of snow.

Mostly virga. There might be some EXTREMELY light flurries, sleet pellets, or rain, EXTREMELY light if your lucky.

The radar is in clear air mode(used when precip is very light or during well, clear weather). It can pick up ANYTHING in the atmosphere. It's picked up flocks of birds here before. :lol:

I think if I were in the FL Panhandle I'd sit bundled up on my blue tarp roof and look upward with some binoculars. There just hast to be a wayward flake or two.

At the very least, the radar showing snow and mixed precip in FL is quite interesting.

Did I say it was reaching the ground? No, I did not, but I happen to know from obs in our area and from Kelly's report that some is reaching the ground. Strange that we have an ob on the site saying the precip in NW FL is reaching the ground when you say it isn't. Where does your info come from? How do you know the Intellicast radar is "WAY WAY overblown..."?

As far as the way you have been posting about this entire event-I find it rude at a minimum!!! I am tired of hearing about poor Brent and the snow he hasn't gotten. Try living on the Gulf Coast for 50 years and then come crying to me about not getting snow. Try being happy for those that might see a flake or two who usually don't or never have. Excuse me while I step down off my soapbox.

LOL... that's not a bad idea. We had a similar situation last winter... flurries you had to go outside to see. Those are so annoying.
