HISTORIC WINTER STORM IN TEXAS OVERNIGHT...
One of the most unusual winter storms in American history struck southern and southeast Texs last night with record setting snowfall in some places that has not been seen in over 100 years.
The big winner or loser depending on your point of view was in Tilman, Texas where 1 foot of snow fell, 12 inches of snow fell overnight. Victoria follows closely behind with 10 inches of snow observed overnight. At one point last night, snowfall rates were 2-3 inches per hour in Victoria.
Further south, even Port O'Connor reported 2 inches of snow at the Coast Guard Yard station there. Corpus Cristi received 4.4 inches of snow, which wasn't only a record all time for greatest 12 hour snowfall total ever, but it was the most snow Corpus Cristi has seen in 72 years.
Even more shocking is further south in Brownsville where 1.5 inches of snow fell overnight. This is the first time snow has accumulated in Brownsville in 3-4 generations. We would have to go back to February 1895 to experience our last accumulating snowfall in Brownsville. This was also the last time snow was observed on the ground.
The timing of this event is truly amazing as most folks in this region received their first white christmas ever overnight. Truly an historic storm and one of the more shocking winter weather events in US History without question. Enjoy the snow this morning down in southeast and southern Texas because significant snow melt will occur this afternoon as temps warm into the 40s and 50s.

Merry Christmas to you also Terry. I mentioned Tilman, TX above. It's Tilden, TX. A bit of a typo this morning obviosuly because I was up all night tracking this historical storm. I'm still digging deep into information on this. Just a mind blowing event. Not even your father, gradnfather, or even great grandfather ever experienced such an event like this in places like Brownsville, Texas because it hasn't snowed in Brownsville in over 4 generations. Last accumulating snow prior to last nights shocking events occurred in Brownsville back in February 1895.

Historical White Christmas over many areas this morning.
Record breaking snow over many areas.
Speechless disbelief from Weather Forecast Offices after more than a foot of snow falls at several locations.
You could live 1000 years and never see this.
US Weather Records have also been broken for the most snow this far south in the US
Snowfall Records:

Victoria: 11-13 inches, biggest snow ever recorded.
Bay City: 10-12 inches
Angleton: 9.0 inches
Ganado: 12 inches
Wharton: 7 inches
Tilden: 12 inches
El Campo: 6 inches
Matagorda: 7.5 inches
Port Lavaca: 8 inches
Port O Conner: 4 inches

First White Christmas on record at Hobby Airport, Galveston, Bay City, and Wharton.
No snow at BUSH and No White Christmas at the major recording site for Houston.
Since TX was settle in the 1800's there has not been such a large snowstorm in S TX and the coastal bend into our SW counties.
Wharton and Victoria County OEM has declared a Travel Emergency countywide: Many roads are impassable from drifting snow with cars stranded. The National Guard is being activated in Victoria County to help with snow removal on the major roadways to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
I cannot believe I am talking about snow removal in SC TX and SE TX.

What a wonderful christmas gift mother nature has given to parts of Texas. Merry "white" christmas to all of you who received it. I guess the temps here in the Fla panhandle aren't cold enough to support any white stuff, just rain today in the forecast and 34degrees. Merry Christmas everybody...and somebody make a snowangel for me will ya?
