South Beach Diet
I will be starting the SBD the first of the new year.. Anyone else on it? I found a site that is full of SBD'ers and the support there is great.. But I wanted to see if anyone in my storm2k family has taken this life style change path!

Since May 11, I've lost and kept off 35 lbs. on a lower-fat modification of South Beach. Make sure you check with your doctor before starting, especially if you have any pre-existing conditions (I have slight heart and blood pressure issues). The key to success for me is to look at low-carb as a way of life instead of just a "diet" (that and drinking lots of water...!).
It would be great to have a S2K support group! Sharing ideas, gripes, etc., is always helpful.

Hey all - I was on a post-surgery diet 5 years ago. And I lost a lot of weight!!! Went from a size 12 to a 4. I've shared with others what worked for me that might work for others too - simple ideas to try actually. But I should add that having 15 inches of my colon removed probably had something to do with my weight loss too. But here's what I did:
Ate for 12 hours on, 12 off. Began eating at breakfast (6 a.m.) and stopped all solids by 7 p.m. If I felt hungry after dinner, I drank a tall glass of water, 8-12 oz. and that tricked my stomach into thinking it was full. After a few weeks of this, my body was used to no solids after dinner. Consequently, I slept better than I had in years. And I mean years!
I ate small meals - 4 to 6 per day.
I ate much smaller portions of food, using a tablespoon and not a serving spoon, for sides. Half a sandwich, instead of a whole one.
Exercising. My doctor said to choose one of these 4:
walking (power)
jogging/running
swimming laps
bicyling (in place or on a real bike)
I chose walking and we eventually bought a treadmill.
I will be honest here and admit to eating after dinner again. And the pounds have crept back on. I've also skipped my daily walks on the treadmill. I need to get back to all of these things. Remember to drink water if you're reducing the amount of food you take in, water really does trick your stomach into thinking it's food! And remember to eat a healthy mix of foods for your lighter portions (cake, cookies don't count!).

PS - Shawn, were you just joking or are you on a diet? LOL Maybe I'll call my diet the Mary Diet?
Hardly can call it the Cincy diet, too many temptations here - Skyline Chili, Graeters Ice Cream, etc.

Did the SBD last year with limited success...but I agree with you...greta web support for this one.
I'm trying to convince my wife that we need to supplement dieting with some "strategic" exercise.

One of my friends is on the SBD. He lost 50 pounds. He had excellent motivation and he says that is what helped him. When he started losing the weight he really became overly motivated. He looks great!
You can do it Chad.
You need to take vitamins with it Chad. Go to Wally World and buy the One A Day (Weight Smart) vitamins. They boost your metabolism and do not make you hungry like regualr vitamins do.

Lindaloo wrote:Another thing Chad, if you do not own a bicycle, purchase one. Did you know that riding a bike twice around the block decreases your appetite? Not to mention it is great exercise. That is something you, Jen and Dustin can do together. (Family support).
Yes Linda.. Jenn and I both have new bikes.. Need to get the little seat for Dustin. We also just bought a Tred Mil. Its go Time

Careful with it, though. I know someone who was at a gym who put the treadmill on its fastest mode. They lost their footing and flew off the thing.
Now I'm thinking of the episode of "Wings", when Brian and Joe were trying to impress Alex!!!!

That is great!! You two will enjoy the biking plus Dustin will have fun.
Take the treadmill in small doses though. Like your first time go for maybe 5 minutes then increase as you get used to it. You do not want to overdo it and burn yourself out.
