I have the slow southern drawl. I was born in Greensboro,NC. Lived there all my life until I moved to S FL in '93. My best friend lives here, too.
She's from Corbin, KY. We've been asked if we came down off the same mountain.

RP (ConstructionWx) sounds a lot like the late, great Lewis Grizzard. A smooth southern drawl (I'm so envious :D

Thanks Perry. I seldom missed his column. Maybe he rubbed off on me? :D

For instance, I said the blessing before we had lunch. I thanked the Lord for three things: fried chicken, potato salad and for the fact he had allowed me the privilege of being a Bulldog.

I still miss him.

Me too RP...that was a sad, sad day in 1994 when he left us..

Lewis Grizzard made all southerners proud when he spoke, and made us proud to be southerners. He represented the Bulldawg Nation well...just as you do you RP :)

I have a Southern drawl, naturally. But, when I am on the phone
ordering supplies, equipment, etc. from people all around the country,
I try to use my best clear, un-accented English. People in some other
parts of the country wouldn't understand, "I need some of them, ya'll....."
:ggreen: But, in normal conversation, you'll definitely catch the Southern.

One of my favorite songs is Tom Petty's "Southern Accents".

I guess people from the north would say I have a southern accent, but I think they just have a northern accent.

Thanks isobar... I do indeed have a New England accent. The "r" at the end of some words is pronounced when there isn't one and some words that do not have an "r," we pronounce it. :D

"Paark tha caaah in tha Haaavaard Yaarhd!"

LOL Coldfront. It's impossible to come out of New England with your "r"s intact. And, like you said, they take those missing "r"s and put it at the end of a perfectly innocent word like "idea" and make it "idear".
I have a friend from the Fall River area, and her accent sounds just like Emeril Lagasse. I keep expecting her to yell, "BAM!"

Those living in the New Bedford and Fall River area have a Rhode Island accent, a little bit different than the "Boston accent," almost more like a New Yorker. :D

You're right CF. It's sort of a blend of NE/NY, even though it's only about 50 miles from Boston. Cool! 8)

Basically a generic with slight Texas drawl(whaddaya expect afta 32 years in Houston?).

When my roomate at college was from Bahstan I ended up with a hint of the pure Boston "pawk ma caw in hawvad yawd" accent. That was interesting mixed with my then slight southern drawl! When I was in Scranton for my Grandmother's funeral as a teenage, I went out with some teens from the area and they were very amused by my "twang"(I lived in Tallahassee then)and couldn't believe my "tint"(tan. which I already had in April).

Really, I picked generic becuase I don't think I have an accent, but as I am sure you picked up on from my posts, I tend to say y'all a lot, maybe ingrained in me from living in NC? Who knows!
