Earthquake/Tsunami Changed Weather?

#1 Postby Anonymous » Mon Jan 03, 2005 12:37 pm

I have read and heard speculation that the horrific event in the Indian Ocean was so violent that it disrupted the earth and the rotation of it's axis which in turn would dramatically effect weather worldwide.

Any professional mets care to comment on the this?

Of course, our thoughts and prayers go out to the many families effected by this natural disaster.

I doubt it, but we here in Seattle are going to be facing near all time record low temps, and tons of snow by the end of the week, which is extremely unusual!

Seattle below zero???? Could very well happen!

Yes R-Dub you will get hammered as Artic air slids into the NW. Very cold and big snows are heading your way, enjoy.

I am very excited about it! We only get treated to something like this once every ten years or more!! Last time we had a similar situation was Dec 1990.

Though it could turn out to be better, maybe even the great winter of 1950! I doubt it, but I can dream!!

I am not excited about what happened, I was replying to bigeyedfish's post. I am excited about Seattles upcoming winter weather.

KMAN...I would think you would be able to tell by reading my post that it had nothing to do with the horrific things that happened over there, it was all about seattle weather!

It would take FAR FAR more than such a minor shift in the axial tilt and length of day to have any effect on the weather. After all, the tilt of the Earth's axis has decreased by 0.1 degree over the past 100 years or so in response to a normal cycle and this hasn't had any noticeable effect on the weather.
