NEXT MAJOR WEATHER EVENT SEEMS ON TAP FOR TUESDAY INTO TUESDAY NIGHT FOR THE AREA. GFS/DGEX/ECMWF ALL VARY ON THE DETAILS...BUT ALL HAVE SOME SORT OF SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM ON TAP FOR PARTS OF KANSAS AND NEBRASKA. VERY STRONG ISENTROPIC LIFT SEEN IN SEVERAL LAYERS BETWEEN 290 AND 305K...ALSO SEEN IN STRONG WARM AIR ADVECTION BETWEEN 950 TO 700 MB. POTENTIAL VORTICITY CROSS SECTIONS SHOW TROPOPAUSE FOLD JOINING UP WITH FRONTAL BOUNDARY EARLY WEDNESDAY IN THE GFS OVER THE FORECAST AREA. SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENTS UP TO 70 MB/KM ALSO PRESENT. BOTH OF THESE FACTORS WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO VERY STRONG WINDS. WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IN OR NEAR THE FORECAST AREA TUESDAY NIGHT. HAVE INCREASED POPS AND WINDS FOR TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY.
The 12Z Canadian and GFS models looking very snowy for here for Tuesday night and all day Wednesday along with windy conditions for blowing and drifting snow as well.
Thunderstorms near here late Tuesday and east and south of here Tuesday night and Wednesday as well. A very strong storm should be coming out of the Rockies on Tuesday.
For an interesting fact... here in Gretna (SW Omaha) we've had 3.3" of snow this season. That's 6.7" below normal or 33% of average.
Anyway, feel free to post information here. I know we had a few Omahans around here that will be following this storms footprints as it nears.
