The tornado is NOT 1 mile wide, it's the CELL that's PRODUCING the tornadoes, the CELL is NOW 5 MILES wide and growing, talk about a EEERIE looking CLOUD, they just showed it on the news  TONS of CC, CG lightning with HAIL covering the ground in areas 2" DEEP!

Hello...been watching the cell about 5 miles N of me. No rotation visible from here, and it is now getting dark. Plenty of cloud to ground and fascinating to see the SW flank of the storm at sunset all the way up to the mammatus and anvil. I suspect we will see scattered intense showers and storms over the next hour or so.

Equally as fascinating as the 20"+ snows in Flagstaff today!!!

Safe here...the show has been fascinating. 1.80" of rain in the last 24 hours here, too. Flooding in many places.

I'm safe. We're safe.

Hey guess what?! We a line of severe cells move through us producijng alot of severe weather the night before that hit phoenix. I was watching the satellite, and sure enough, that was the exact same storm that passed directly over my house here in Southern California...Well maybe not the same cell, but the exact same band of severe storms. This one was intense, and marked the cold air aloft Awesome pic! Ours hit at 10pm the night before, and WOW! it was big...lightning lit the sky every second, and the cloud wouldnt stop shutting up..the thunder never stopped, and it was amazing..even hail...An even bigger system than last will come in on friday, and then an even bigger on after that according to analysis, but could change, still a VERY active winter.

It's a shame we're getting SO much rain in such a short amount of time. Basically between 3-4" here in the last two weeks...with upwards of 6" of rain in many areas.

They have had to open many of the reservoirs and release water to protect the watersheds and levels there...and that water is just sent downstream never to return.

Later, when we need it most, it will be gone!

Meanwhile, the short term for 2005 ought to be much less concerned about the drought for THIS year at least....especially with record snows in the high country.

I hope that Lake Powell water levels are growing steadily too, since that is a long term indicator of drought relief.

i recall a storm that was very similar in 95 or so. took a friend's roof right off and his front picture window exploded.

we lived in wickenburg then, i was driving my husband home from Sky Harbor and we raced it home. It was our wedding anniversary and we were planning to eat at the little German place on the main drag in Wickenburg. They brought us our dinners and the power went out. It was really kind of cool. I miss AZ so much!!

Alicia...

Was just in Wickenburg two weeks ago. Ate at a little Italian restaurant there for lunch. When did you move from there? I have been visiting the publisher of the Wickenburg Sun (who we print for) a few times a year. He is right up there along the railroad tracks in the center of town.

They got their share of rain and wind this week too.

Wow I have some relatives that live in Sun City and Peroria. So there was a Tornado on the ground? Or just rotation inside the cell?

The video I saw actually showed a funnel aloft out in west Phoenix. What made this unique among winter "cold air funnels" was that this was produced on the southwest flank of a very vigorous thunderstorm. I had a classic view of that portion and were it not that temps were in the 50's that day, I suspect it might have become a major threat to a densely populated area of north and west Phoenix.

We were lucky.
