How Cold in Florida (Tampa area)

#1 Postby Guest » Mon Jan 10, 2005 2:37 pm

I read on accuweather that old man winter will make his appearance and it will be brutal and fast. However, I have a question for the mets and for that matter anyone who knows. How cold will it get into central florida. I mean will it be just cool or will it be bitter cold?

It is 75 in Tampa (feels hotter) headed toward 80 today and my mother has the heater set for 79 in the house and its extremely warm in here. If it gets high 30's it is bitterly cold for some who hate cold weather. It does feel colder to us when we go from 80 during the week and then wham down in the thirties.

if temperatures drop by 50 degrees in less than a day or a day, it feels like a knife slicing right through you especially if it gets a lot colder.

Tell me about it.. we have had lows only in the upper 60's, so a morning in the 30's would be brutal

Not that Im complaning....I need a little chilly air.

Good thing about the Jax area here. We actually do get some sub freezing weather every winter.

So far, my coldest this winter was the XMas snap, got down to 22 at my house, but Im kinda out in the country, so Im always about 3-5F colder at night and 5-10F warmer during the day. *anyone that has been in North Central Florida during the summer cant attest, no ocean breeze to warm or cool things down this far inland.

FLORIDA FRONT

#11 Postby HURRICANELONNY » Tue Jan 11, 2005 7:44 am

As I read the NWS forecast every day, I see why it changes so much. They hug the GFS. Don't they know there are other models to use? First the front was stalling in the straits with a low forming somewhere in the gulf now there is no low and the front stalls north of south florida:

The good news since it is the GFS is that it will change again and most likely the front will clear south Florida.
