I do not understand why people still dont wear seat belts. Without them you have good chance of being ejected from the vehicle and killed..or gravely injured. I have been wearing them since I was old enough to understand this (about the time I started school) and to this day ALWAYS buckle up..and require my passengers to do likewise :D

If my youngest son had not been wearing a seatbelt in Jan. 2000 , when he hit black ice on I 95 in Rocky Mount, NC, he would have been thrown out of his car as it tumbled down the mountain side. His car landed nose first and then tumbled end over end down the mountain 7 times before landing upside down against a tree. When he released the seat belt, he fell thru the moonroof of the car and hung there, trapped by his shoestring caught in a crack in the dash board. His injury were severe and life threatening as he had ruptured his spleen in the accident. He had broken his leg and smashed his knee and puntured his left knee with the broken turn signal stick. He spent 4 days in ICU at Rocky Mount Hospital before being med-evacuted back to the Navy Hospital in Norfolk, Va. where he is stationed. He is a 2nd class Petty Officer on board the USS Thoeodore Roosevelt.

And Dennis!! He was in an accident that would have killed him if he had been wearing a seat belt if I remember correctly.

I myself have been saved by seat belts a few times. I put mine on to drive down the driveway!!

I do understand where people come from when they are talking about their rights and the government, but that has got to be tempered with common sense about safety!!! And the facts prove that seatbelts save lives. I noticed in Dereks well written article that he said it only saved an additional 6100 lives. ONLY??? ONE IS A GOOD THING!!! 6100 IS FANTASTIC!!!

Even sadder is the fact that an obviously very smart person will no longer be able to contribute to society.

Yeh I basically made this thread for dennis. I remember him telling us about how he would have died if he wore his seatbelt so he no longer wears them.

If they'd make a seatbelt setup for patrolmen/SAR people that accommodates their "waist gear" (weapon, cuff case, glove case, radio case, ammo cases, etc.), I'd be SO happy...as of now, they don't. :x

I'm with you on both the seatbelt and helmet thing, Chad.

What I have never understood is seeing so many parents driving around with their children unbuckled. They probably have safety latches on their cabinets at home to prevent poisonings, but can't manage to keep their children safely buckled up.
