Is this the same landslide that killed one and left 12 missing earlier? Did they find another victim? Hope everyone else makes it out ok... :(

Just saw it on the news here. Unbelievable!! Still at 2 dead and a dozen missing. Took out 15 houses. People literally running down the streets saving themselves!!! Makes me like the flat plains of Texas when I see that!!

I am OK by the way, I don't live anywhere near there (thankfully). Makes me wish we didn't get 20 inches plus of rain all at once (as some areas alreadsy have). I mean, yes we needed some drought relief ut man, not the whole thing all at one time...

This part of a news article about the mudslide really stuck out to me-

"I know they've got to be there. I'm not going to stop," Jimmie Wallet said as he desperately searched for his wife and three children, ages 2, 6 and 10. His face and clothes were caked in mud after digging for hours.

Wallet, the man who spent the night digging for his wife and kids, was briefly handcuffed and detained after trying to run past a barricade.

"I have to get my kid! I have to get my kid!" Wallet screamed before he was taken into a command post and then allowed to return to the mound.

Wallet had gone to pick up ice cream when the mudslide hit. Emerging from a store, he watched the dirt curve toward his block. He sprinted to his home, but it was buried under the muck.

Unfortunately Mr. Wallet's wife and children all perished in the landslide...that brings the total to 25 people that lost their lives in the last week of rain....we are anxiously awaiting to see what "Aaahrnold" will do about this.

In addition to Mr. Wallet's story...this broke my heart to read.

Hugs and prayers to everyone in CA.

In one of the most wrenching moments of the day, rescue workers found a pool of blood in a crevice of wreckage that led dogs to the body of a young girl. Rescuers removed the body, wrapped it in a white quilted blanket and placed it gently on the ground. Six residents — it was not clear if they were related to the girl — surrounded the body, dropped to their hands and knees and touched their foreheads to the quilt.

Unfortunately, the slide area is a known geological hazard zone and that this is another example of people placing themselves at risk. The County wanted to move everyone form the area following an ealier slide a few years ago but they refused so the County built the retaining wall, warned residents that it was not adequate protection from mudslides and had everyone sign liability waivers.

Agreed. These people were knowingly living in a high-risk area. Still, that doesn't change what has happened to them or their loved ones. Their losses are huge. My heart and prayers go out to all who lost so much this past week in CA.
