Cold Air Central Plains

#1 Postby sertorius » Fri Jan 14, 2005 7:17 am

Good Morning everybody!! I'll just thorw in my observations here. Sorry about a new thread, but I other one is gone gone gone!! We are currently at 4 degrees with a 10 MPH North wind. Clouds began to role in about 3 hours ago and that kept us from going below 0. I doubt we get much higher than 15 today if that. That will be almost 25 degrees below normal-that is a significant cold shot. Wouldn't be surprised to see flurries today and tomorrow as the cold air really settles in. Still not sure about early next week-I'm sure we will moderate, but I think we stay below freezing untill at least Wed. if not longer. The models, as I've been saying (I'm sure ad nauseum to many!!!!) are really having trouble right now with next week. This is such a deep cold air mass that I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a week to scour it all the way out-esp. with the snow pack sitting 60 miles to my North (I still have ice snow patches and 1/2 my yard is still ice covered!!) In reality, the other two shallower air masses never really did leave and if we get one or two more shots in the next couple of days, it will really hold on. I don't mean we will stay in the teens for 6 days, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us below freezing for 5-6 days and then highs in the upper 30's for a day or two then maybe we break 40. But again, who knows-the models keep offering different solutions. Have a good day and stay warm. I'll tell ya-I do love this cold air-so clean and fresh-to me, this is better than the 80 degree lows with 70% humidity we get every summer. I can bank on the heat in the summer-the cold in the winter is always a surprise!!
