Amarillo on board with arctic air...

So is the big question still, will the artic air make its way down into Texas or not? Was reading the different discussions out of NWS offices (Lubbock, Midland, and Amarillo) and they seem to think so, but the local mets don't. Or that was the way I read the discussions. Any thoughts??

Kel ... we're not getting anything exciting here in central TX. 10-15 degrees below normal by Monday. No major freeze. No possible winter precip. ZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

I don't think we will reach our forecasted high for today, right now it's still 35 degrees at 9:05am with a N wind at 7mph WC of 32.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high around 54. East southeast wind around 5 mph.

I don't know CC. It's just after 11am and it's now 44 degrees. Looks like 54 is not out of reach.

Edit: Looks like high clouds are settling in. That would keep the temps down, which it appears to be doing. Almost 1pm and 47.

Well it's 2pm and still haven't broke 50 here, 48 right now and we should reach our high by or before 3pm. I haven't checked D/FW Airport for the offical temp so far, just my local.


Just hit 50 at 2:15pm I dont want to warm up!!!

Cheer up my fellow Texans that love the cold. We have traditionaly had our coldest weather in late Jan into late Feb. In fact , some of our coldest temps in history have occured during that time span.

My gut tells me we have not seen the last of Old Man Winter.

Conversely, our hottest temps generally occur 6 months from that timeframe. In August, I bet most of us would love to have 50 degree highs.

Speaking of hot temps, we have had 100 degree temps down here between cold spells in February. When you get the southwest winds off the mountains in Mexico, look out. I hate hot weather in February and March!

Little to no arctic air penetration into TX. There may be some bleeding into NE and N TX late Saturday, but nothing you have not already had this winter.

The pattern was really never that favorable for this to blast south, the main forecasting points for the air reaching SE and S TX were its high density and cold temps which could have surged it southward along the front range. However, that has not been the case and all indications point the the cold air mass staying to the north and then sliding east

Well, I live right on the Ar/Missouri border and my Dad lives near Baytown, Tx. He is 71 and was so elated about the dusting of snow they got Christmas eve and Christmas that he called me 5 or 6 times, lol. We lived in Oklahoma when I was growing up and he is the one that I blame for making me a weather nut. Anyway, I had told him about a week before Christmas they might get a little snow and I have created a monster as he's always calling me asking what it's gonna do down there now. I told him about a week ago they were going to get some cold weather, heh. Boy am I in for it.
You guys aren't without blame , I based both forecast on a lot of the forecast made here.
I'll tell him I based this one on another source Not really! But he sure is gonna be disapponted. Keep up the good work all. It's a tough pattern we're in all over the USA.
