Yeah, I agree. it is VERY PROMISING. But in the interest of timing and other issues which have worked against us in past events this year, its best to take it one run at a time for now.

In other words, DON'T get excited just yet.

Agree... we need that clipper system to bomb and become our 50/50 low first... THEN we will get our storm.

Show me 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
(repeating) pieces of proof and then I will actually believe the GFS. I would love to believe it more but it is impossible with its junky track record...

Hmm... true.. but this time, for once in a million, the GFS seems to have struck gold...

Are you just saying that since it means snow for you? Come on now, be honest, tell the truth.

Yoda, I am interested as to why you have so much confidence in the GFS this time. I am listening because you are usually the snow cancel guy here in D.C. You usually are the one saying no to snow chances, especially when dealing with the GFS. You are also usually correct my friend. I am looking at it too and have decent confidence, especially if the clipper bombs.

The GFS' timing would be consistent with the idea I expressed yesterday that "Possible amplification in the closing 5-7 days of the month might heighten the risk of a significant snowfall." However, at this juncture, one should probably view the possible snowstorm as raw potential.

It's encouraging that there is model support, but the pieces still need to fall into place. Having said this, I do believe the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will see accumulations of snow over the next 10 days, but it's too soon for me to get into amounts.

I'm looking at the 0z GFS right now, is it the one on January 23rd? If so, it's a cold rain here, BUT, the snow line is right at Gatlinburg where I'll be then. :)

Impressive, 6pm next Sunday:

Wut are the chance of the GFS being right? i mean last time the GFS was hinting at a snowstorm last wednesday for TODAY and nothing happened. What is the GFS calling for right now? What places are supposed to get hit?

The 06z GFS shows the storm, but it's much farther offshore and weaker. It barely snows on the coast.

We're talking ten days out and the GFS always makes the storm larger than it usually is, if it happens at all. I think the GFS is onto something. As usual, it will lose it in the medium range but will pick it up again later, but probably at a lower intensity.

It's nice to dream though....
