Snow not looking good for the east at all.

#1 Postby Anonymous » Fri Jan 14, 2005 4:12 pm

Yea well have the NAO go negative but all that means is that well get a few clippers. And the 50-50 low development is bull. This will not happen. Nothing ever happens for us to get big snow (Southeastern PA) We wont be seeing ANY of the big MAYBE if we get lucky until febuary. This winter really does suck. :(

Where did u hear this? I got to see this to believe it. Are you nuts? NOTHING and i mean NOTHING is looking good for any SIGNIFICENT snowfall for the east coast. I dont care about clippers, they are just annoying and tease you that you cant have any of the big storms.

I agree, people back East are getting to depressed and just giving up on Winter altogether. Like you said, just wait for it and the good snows will come. :)

Are you kidding me? A 50/50 low looks to form soon. We WILL have something on the East coast next weekend, but the bombing of the clipper will decide how big it is. This pattern is going to be excellent, and we could have an 82-83 situation shaping up.

Presidents Day Snowstorm of 1983
There have been quite a few storms on Presidents Day, but nothing like the Presidents Day storm of 1983. It was a storm that dumped up to 18 inches of snow in many parts of the New York metropolitan area. It had been pretty quiet all winter up to that point before this major snowstorm came along. It spread devastation from Washington D.C. all the way up into Boston. This storm had come after the first significant El Nino had affected much of the United States in 1982-83. It was a signal that there were many snowstorms on the way for the next couple of years for the east coast of the United States. It was also the first significant blizzard since the storm of January, 1977, and January, 1978 which raised a great deal of awareness to many residents of the Northeast. The rising awareness to the snowstorms and blizzards were very similar to that of Floridians protecting themselves for storms after Hurricane Andrew carved a path of destruction across Southern Florida in August, 1992.

PS. Do you google, at all? The answers to many of your questions are easily found in seconds.

For instance, I pulled up 82,100 hits when googling "Blizzard of 1983". You ought to try this some time. It works very well.

Chris,

I'm sorry, my work schedule has not permitted me as much time as I would need to work on those winters. I have a window beginning around Feb. 7 and will try to finish one or two of those winters over a two week period. It's the research that is most time-consuming.
