What piece of music are you ashamed to admit you own?

When i was in elementary school i bought an Ace of Base tape. At the same time i bought Hootie and the Blowfish. At least I was only 10yrs old at the time.

Yeah, I had Hanson too, and Ace of base, I still have Ace Of Base... but I think the lamest cd I ever owned was the Baywatch Soundtrack! :roll:

Miss Mary, I have never listened to Hansen, but I appreciate what you saw/did. Nina's into original, alt rock now. Thank goodness!! Used to be into the Backstreet Boys, et all. She attended the Warped Tour last year as it came thru Cincinnati. A few of the bands that performed are huge now. She loves saying hey I was there!!! Same with John Mayer, he performed an annual outdoor fest called Jammin' on Main a few years back. Literally months before he was signed and well, as they say, the rest is history! We were there to see him play to a small crowd. Something that would not happen now!

You know exactly what I am talking about. With Billy Joel there were about 200-300 others in the room max. Incredible performance!!!
Amazingly, at that same music conference, on the way to another seminar/performance, a group I was walking with had to wait while Michael Jackson(the Jackson Five) were going through the foyer into the hall for a sound check(not part of the conference we were at). That was in 1971!

well, on 78, have some joke records that are pretty embarrassing. Also the Tip Toe Through the Tulips record with the defect that Tiny Tim imitated in the 1960s... Nelson Eddy & Jeannette McDonald, Rudy Valee, etc. Pretty corny.

On 45, Tennesee Ernie Ford, Jo Stafford and lots of odd stuff--pretty random. Most is definitely eeewwwww! Also lots of European rock and roll, including a Danish version of "Stupid Cupid" that sounds like "Sexy Hexy"...

On LPs--you name it--from German Drinking Songs to the Vaughn Meader First Family album... But mostly good rock and roll... Lots of embarrassing stuff, though.

On tape--don't go there.

On CD--well I love funny Christmas music--the Dr. Demento albums are pretty embarrassing...

Why is all this stuff embarrassing? Partly because everyone in my family is into "Classical" music--big time. My sister played in some highbrow symphony orchestra, my grandchildren are into "serious" music, etc.

When she was a teenager, my daughter would come in the house and turn the stereo DOWN and yell about embarrassing her...

But I also love Townie Tunes (local spoofs by Boston Radio Station DJs) and other local stuff--I used to live in Bridgeport, CT and have a copy of "I Don't Wanna Live in Bridgeport..."

I'm not ashamed to have them, and they are...(all CDs)...

Clannad, Enya, Celine Dion, Loreena McKennitt (all seven), Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, MeatLoaf, almost everything Billy Joel and Elton John ever recorded, Toto, and...Bangles.

Missing are ABBA, Bee Gees, Laura Branigan, Cyndi Lauper and "Downtown" Julie Brown. But I wish I had them. :larrow:

After reading Persepone's list (we have an antique Victrola, and were given a stack of 78's once, we treasure them!) I just have to ask this question......

Who here still owns an 8 track tape? Come on, someone here has to have one in the bottom of a box somewhere....LOL

I think buried in the basement we own one or two.

We sold my 1980 Honda Civic in 1994. It didn't even have 100K yet. Think the odometer was at 90,000. Body was in great shape, but it didn't have A/C. It was time to sell it and move up to a roomier Jetta. For family reasons and all. Well, it had an 8 Track Player and you should have heard the responses we got when people would call or look at it - an EIGHT TRACK PLAYER? LOL We asked for $500, could have easily asked for $800, we had so many calls for that car that weekend. Anyway, I think the buyer asked - what do I do with this 8 Track Player again? Got any tapes......LOL She was a single mom, mid 20s, in college at the time. Living with her parents. But her dad smiled!!!

That's my 8 Track story!

I have the Southpark Bigger Longer Uncut Soundtrack. It was a gift from an old boyfriend. I used to play it all the time and have all the songs memorized. My husband thinks I bought it.

That cassette tape, "Gregorian Chant", has yet to be remastered and released on CD, as far as I know.

The only Michael Jackson I own is the Thriller CD.

I wore my Thriller casette out years ago to the point that it would squeak when played. Never bought another one.
