I'm confused as well. But if this show turns some off, so be it.

All I can say is, a good majority of viewers seem to like shows like this! I compare the instant success DH generated to Dallas, way back when. Yes I'm old enough to remember those days....Dallas was THE water-cooler show to discuss. Now it's DH.

My three favorite shows of all time are 1. The Waltons. 2. Dallas and 3. Knots Landing. (#4 is Friends and #5 St. Elsewhere, from there it's a tossup!).

And I think I came out of these 3 fine - I'm a good person!!! People used to ask me - how can you like the Waltons AND Dallas? Well, Bobby was my favorite on D, so that helped. I wasn't swayed by JR's charms....LOL But it was fun to watch someone be bad each week.

So if DH turns anyone off, I suggest just changing channels. And the funny thing is I received the first 2 seasons of Dallas for xmas. Dallas is very tame compared to 2005 sitcoms/dramas!!! Very! I'm not saying in 25 years, there will be trashier shows than DH but people want shocking-type shows. They want to escape their troubles for an hour each week. Nothing wrong with that (if it's not stuff, that is).

Just look at the rate that divorce and crime has sky-rocketed since they started putting it on TV.

Monkey see, monkey do. I am scared that our society is headed towards the dump in a hurry.

BTW: here is the definition of

Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal.

By this definition, I would say DH is pornographic.

Oh, please! If you are so afraid of the impact - don't watch it!

Is that not what I wrote in my earlier post (the same definition)? There is nothing sexually EXPLICIT about DH. It is all implied.

My goodness, Jake, how do you feel about Shakespeare? That was centuries ago and look what HIS plays portrayed!

Your point about ideologies doesn't fly since people are able to see the CONSEQUENCES of behavior such as that also. Isn't that the point? To show people that you can't get by with things like that? Monkey see, monkey don't do!

If what we watch molds our behavior, then by now I ought to be a sex crimes investigator (SVU) who dates an ER doc, works out 4 hours a day (Biggest Loser), defends herself with a staff (Xena), rooms with three other girls (Facts Of Life), and has a cousin who is my twin (Patty Duke).

In a related way, I read that Nicollette Sheridan (Edie on DH) made the worst dressed list for 2004. I suspect her agent wanted her to dress the part of Edie when the show was first promoted. But she's still dressing this way! No wonder she made that list!!! Courtney Love is on it too! Yikes....I just remember NS from Knots Landing. NS always dressed nicely when she was on KL.

The two TV characters NS has played - Edie and Paige - are as different as night and day!

Thanks for the list Brent.

WOW... did anyone watch last night?

That had to be one of the best episodes yet.

Susan had to suck up to Edie Britt and admit to the house fire after she found out Mrs. Huber kept journals and she was the first to connect Susan to the fire, but never told anyone. She went with Edie to dump Mrs. Huber's ashes in a lake. Well, when Edie found out, she dumped the ashes on Susan. They go back home and she hoses Susan down. LOL!

We found out why Mike is on Wisteria Lane. Sounds like one of his old girlfriend's went missing and they believe someone is responsible. The father, that is paying him to find who it is, is dying of a brain tumor.

Bree teaches George how to use a gun but it backfires when George starts to kiss Bree and she accidentally shoots him in the leg, he loses a toe.

Carlos came home from jail, but is on house arrest and wants a baby. At the end he is shown replacing Gabrielle's birth control pills with something else.

TV Guide's critic implied last night's show was a doozy. I need to watch the last half hour yet. Edie and Susan are a riot together - both despise eachother!!! Simmering resentment/jealousy ready to come out every time those two are in a room together!!! Can anyone say - cat fight? I bet when the writers were coming up with this show, on paper, they said - we need two women/wives be sworn enemies for excitement, etc. LOL

I had to applaud Marcia Cross (Bree) when she was holding the handgun and teaching George how to use it. Either she already knew or someone told her how to grip it with her finger outside the trigger guard (one of my biggest pet peeves -- how Hollywood incorrectly portrays gun handling...but they're getting better). After all, if Bree is an NRA member, she'd better get that right.

And on a side note -- Desperate Housewives and Terri Hatcher won Golden Globes!

I finished watching last night's episode!

First off I find it hard to believe a character portrayed by Nicollette Sheridan could be anything but popular in HS!!! I've rewound that tape otherwise I go back to how she described herself in HS - a nerd? No that wasn't the term she used. But come on!!! Susan a cheerleader, yes I can see that.

I did laugh at Edie's comment - this is still HS and the same old cliques apply! So absolutely true!!! In my very neighborhood my next door neighbor behaves this way - nice but cliquey. Is that a word? When we all moved onto our street, homes new, I saw a clique forming and realized I had to play games to fit in. I didn't want to play games! Still don't. So I was nice but distanced myself, early on. Funny thing is this neighbor's daughter was friends with my oldest daughter and they had a rocky friendship. The daughter learned from the mother is all I can say now. Fast forward to 2005, her daughter is in college and mine's about to enter college soon. Now they talk but for about 10 years they didn't! I was so glad I stood firm and said no games for me!!!!

Wouldn't it be ironic if Edie and Susan became best buds now? DH is so wacky and out there, it's possible!!! The other wives would be shaking their heads!!!!

I'm still confused on Mike's story though. He killed before? Who did he kill? I'm starting not to like him! I thought he was a good guy, undercover agent or something.

Bree does everything perfect. I think she's going to be shot (by the pharmacist wacko) and that's how she and her husband will get back together. I definitely can see Edie as the cigarette smoking, black leather jack wearing high school tramp.

Here's the preview for next week(The last new episode until February 13)

Announcer: Next Sunday
Lynette: Your Dad... is having an affair. If you ever betray me, I will leave you
Rex: Isn't divorce fun?
Bree: If I slept with another man, would that hurt you?
Rex to George: I'd be careful if I were you
John's Father to Gabrielle: We came to talk to you about our son
John's Mother: We need you to do something for us
Gabrielle: I think it's best we keep our distance
John's Mother: We haven't gone to the police about what you did, but that could easily change.
Unknown voice(Maybe Zach?) while Susan listens in on the phone: You didn't tell her about what happened to Dana did you?
Julie?: I can keep a secret
Paul Young to Susan: How much did you hear?
Susan: Everything
Announcer: On an all-new Desperate Housewives, Next Sunday at 9/8 Central on ABC

TV Guide website:

Like Father, Like Son? That's a question Tom must ask himself when his travelling-salesman father(Ryan O'Neal) drops in for a visit and Lynette catches her father-in-law with a "business associate" who's missing some of her underwear. Susan finds Julie in a situation not nearly as compromising with Zach, but it's just as troubling, and speaking of young love, John's parents(Kathryn Harrold, Mark Harelik) have a favor to ask of Gaby. Meanwhile, Rex wants to reconcile with Bree, but all she wants is the country club membership.

TV Tome:

When Lynette's father-in-law (guest star Ryan O'Neal as Rodney Scavo) pays a visit to to the family, she unwittingly learns a family secret. Meanwhile Susan is disturbed by Julie's growing romance with Zach, Rex attempts to reconcile with Bree, and Gabrielle is shocked when John's parents (guest stars Kathryn Harrold and Mark Harelik) ask her for a favor.

What's ironic about DH is the show's title.

Edie - divorced.

Susan - divorced.

Bree - on the verge of a legal separation, unless she can forgive her husband's affair.

Gabrielle - hubby tricking her into getting pregnant, her former boy-toy's parents want to talk to her. This marriage sure doesn't sound good!

Lynette - her marriage seems to be the most normal one. Although her fa-in-law is coming for a visit soon and she discovers he's cheating. She then tell her hubby if you ever cheat on me, I'm leaving.....

Mary Alice - deceased. But her marriage was the most bizarre of all! If her husband hadn't bumped her off, what we all assume happened, they would have headed for divorce court probably.

Mrs. Huber - where was her husband? Fuzzy on that.

At times this show was compared to Knots Landing. KL - culdesac. Wisteria Lane - culdesac. Nicolette Sheridan appears in both. But on KL you had one very grounded, normal marriage - first the Fairgates, then the MacKenzie's!

On DH it seems nearly all of the women have frustrated relationships!!!!

I guess that's the twist - Wisteria Street is very far from normal!

The story is Mrs. Huber's husband died years before this show started. The joys of television.

Wisteria Lane isn't even in the same universe as normal. Just when I think it can't get more bizarre, it does.

I really think Tom might get into some trouble here in the next few weeks. Introducing his father as having an affair plot really seems to set the stage.

Yeah it sure does. It tells Lynette that maybe Tom looks at affairs in a very casual way. And we all know Tom goes on lots of business trips. The only reason we think he's a good guy is he's crazy about his wife and wants more kids with her. That's always a good sign, after a husband comes home from a business trip!!! But Lynette always seems to me to be on the verge of a meltdown. Much so more than Bree. Bree has to have control over her life. Lynette would dearly love control but it's out of her reach until her kids go off to school! Or they hire an old, frumpy nanny!!!! LOL

TV Guide spoilers!!!

:shocked!:

Bree's brief romance with pharmacist George "will have tragic results"

Lynnette discovers her boys have been stealing from the little old lady who lives across the street, and "that will have implications in terms of the mystery" surrounding Mary Alice's suicide

Mrs. Huber's sister pursues her investigation of her busybody's sister's death: "it's like the Wicked Witch of the West checking out what happened to the Wicked Witch of the East"

Susan forbids daughter Julie from seeing creepy murder suspect Zach.
But she disobeys, and the teens embark on "a very twisted Romeo-and-Juliet relationship." Uh oh!

I can see the George fling going downhill, w/o spoilers. He's actually a little creepy. I want to trim his eyebrows for one thing....LOL I think Bree will be giving her husband a second look when that relationship sours. And looking for a new Pharmacist too!

Desperate Housewives Season 1 will be coming to DVD in August. No other details, but with Season 2 likely in September, that would be perfect for either first-time fans or fans who started in the middle of this season to be all caught up to lead right in to the new episodes.

Episode alert - Ryan O'Neal stars in tonight's show as Lynnette's father-in-law.

FYI to younger members, Ryan O'Neal was once the heart throb....think Brad Pitt or George Clooney here, but a few decades ago. Oh, he is Tatum's dad! Wait, you all probably haven't even heard of her either....feeling pretty old right now! LOL

So anyone older than dirt, like me, who's curious about what good ole Ryan looks like today, T minus 55 minutes and counting now to find out!

Whoa....

DH character and least favorite wife of all ~ Edie ~ is a - MOTHER!!!! Must have missed this past reference...

Question: On one of the first episodes of Desperate Housewives, when Teri Hatcher was burning down Nicollette Sheridan's house, Mrs. Huber was said to be baby-sitting Edie's son, so Edie's aforementioned groove could be gotten. This son has never been mentioned since that episode. What gives? — Brian

Ausiello: "The audience will come to learn that Edie's son lives with his father," exec producer Marc Cherry tells me. "He will be a small child. That'll be a very interesting device we plan to use."

Can't see Edie as a mother anymore than I can see Gabrielle with a child either!!!
