Just got back from Autozone, buying a manual for the Bronco and finding out if a couple of parts were in stock, etc.

This obnoxious guy asked why the symptoms were and I told him and he said the parts i asked for didnt exist....

i found the parts at their website.....

Alicia, you have got to watch out for these car repair part dealers and shops. They will try to get you any way they can.

To make a short story short, I had a fender bender in a parking lot in December. I took the vehicle in for repair to the right front side. Immediately after the incident, the right turn signal lamp on the front of the car was not operating (the indicator chime in the vehicle was flashing rapidly). Okay, so we had a rear end of a vehicle hit that area. They will fix it...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

Well, I get my vehicle back. The right signal operates, but now the left one does not work (same symptoms) !!! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: Those types of businesses love to make more hassle just in the name of the almighty dollar. :grrr: :grrr:

By all means and honestly not trying to infer anything by saying this...but often it seems that mechanic guys (truly honest ones are a rarity in society!) do try to take advantage of gals when it comes to auto servicing...which is truly sad! :( I feel for you women when faced with one of those garage low-lifes who do that kind of thing! :x

Not ALL mechanics are sleaze-buckets!!

My sweetheart owns an automotive repair shop...that's how we met. His shop was recommended to my Dad to repair (my then) POS car. My better half runs an honest shop...and I know for a fact he doesn't gouge anyone...women included.

As an example, one of his long-time customers died about 5 years ago of cancer. He and the customer had become dear friends over the years in the course of taking care of the customer's cars. They used to meet every morning at 5:30 for breakfast to start off their day.

This man was a sweet elderly man, who left behind a widow who is the kindest and most genteel southern lady.

When he was on his deathbed, my fella went to visit before he passed away. This dear older gentleman asked my sweetheart to look after his wife's car after he was gone and make sure no one ripped her off. He was really concerned she'd get ripped off because she'd be an old widow all alone, and he knew my guy wouldn't do that.

To this day, my sweetie goes over to their house about every 3 months, picks up the car, takes it to the shop to do regular maintenance or any necessary repairs. Then he returns it to her when he's finished.

She always goes to write a check, and he tells her don't worry--that he "put it on her tab" and that he'll "send a bill". She's older...so she forgets things like if she paid a bill or not. Not to worry.

He has a file folder about an inch thick which holds the "tab". My guy has never sent a bill, and has covered all of her repairs and maintenance since her husband passed away. That was five years ago. He's told me that he'll honor his commitment to look after her until she goes to meet her husband.

That is one of the major reasons I fell in love with him. He's the most honorable man I've ever, ever met. Early on in our relationship, I realized that if he'd treat an old widowed lady this well...so would he treat me equally as well. And he does.

Teach them a lesson--report them!

#12 Postby Persepone » Tue Jan 18, 2005 10:43 pm

The Autozone guy should be reported to corporate. There are plenty of guys who are not idiots who treat women well at auto parts stores. Autozone can employ them instead. There are also some female owned and run auto parts stores....

As for dishonest repair shops, etc. you should always report them to your state's regulators--varies by state, but it is Atty. General or Consumer Protection or in some states DMV.

If you report them for something dishonest (or seriously incompetent) they will be fined &/or shut down! When enough women do this, the other dealers and repair guys in town hear about and stop dishing it out...

You will get your money back &/or the repairs made properly under state supervision--but more importantly, you prevent them from victimizing other women (and guys who don't know much about cars).

Jeny,

I humbly apologize if you took my post out of context... ...I was referring to Alicia's misfortune of this particular garage supervisor.

I'm sure your husband mechanic is a terrific guy! :)

So sorry for the misunderstanding, Wxbuddy.

No...no...no. I should have been clearer! I didn't mistake what you were saying. There ARE bad mechanics out there who see a woman as major $$ signs.

I just wanted to post a positive example, so that people here would know that there are a few good mechanics out there too!!

The bad one Alicia encountered SHOULD be reported to AZ headquarters (my +1 will NOT deal with AZ, by the way). Even HE, a garage owner, has had bad experiences with them.

This is about AutoZone not auto repair shops. Whole different ballgame.

Second, I find it hard to believe that all mechanics take advantage of women. Never had one do that to me except for dealerships and they found out right quick I am no dummy. :D

Actually, they are related topics.

Where do you think AZ and the other parts places scare up employees?

A lot of them are unemployable mechanics that came from --- repair shops. They are unemployable (some but certainly not all parts employees) because they have caused problems at every garage within a 50 mile radius, and all of the first-rate (and even second-rate) shops in the area won't touch them with a 40 foot pole.

Leaving the detritus with few options, except to find work at places like AutoZone.

But not everyone else does "know all about it", and that was my point in that "mostly on topic" post. To generalize that all parts store employees (or mechanics) view women as a padded bill is a gross injustice to your husband and my better half.

I'm glad you've got 22 years under your belt. We don't have the 22 years, but we're working on it! ;)
