Does this mean there's any hope?

#1 Postby JenyEliza » Tue Jan 18, 2005 6:22 pm

This is from NWS Peachtree City, GA. I'm (probably) just having a huge case of wishful thinking, and reading much, MUCH into the wording of this forecast discussion, but does this mean there is ANY hope to hold on to for frozen precip in the Atlanta area this weekend?

My thinking is they're "holding off" because maybe they don't know really if we're in the path or not. Could this be possible?

If not...well... <sigh> OK. But I (like every other "snow weenie" here) would REALLY love to see accumulating snow this winter! :(

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
603 PM EST TUE JAN 18 2005

.LONG TERM...
SURFACE HIGH BUILDS BACK INTO THE AREA FRIDAY BUT GETS PUSHED EAST FRIDAY NIGHT AS LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PUSHES SOUTHEAST FROM THE GREAT LAKES REGION. MODELS VARYING ON TIMING OF BEST PRECIP CHANCES ACROSS OUR AREA WITH LATEST GFS NOW HINTING AT SATURDAY AFTERNOON/SATURDAY EVENING. PLAN TO MAKE LITTLE CHANCE TO CURRENT FORECAST TREND UNTIL
WE CAN GET A BETTER HANDLE.
HOWEVER...WILL END PRECIP A BIT FASTER ACROSS THE AREA ON SUNDAY...GENERALLY HOLDING ON TO LOW POPS MAINLY DURING THE MORNING. WEAK HIGH PRESSURE BUILD BACK ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY AND WILL CONTINUE DRY FORECAST INTO TUESDAY.

I think there could be a few flurries, but any accumulation would be in the mountains. The county in NC just across from Gatlinburg is mentioning "moderate snow accumulations" Saturday, which to me sounds like more than an inch or two. 8-)

Haywood County? Dammm. That's where my ex-MIL is. Figures. :grr:

BTW...that's where the NC mountains are....they usually always catch frozen precip under these conditions....

A local met named Mike Maze for WRAL-TV5 in Raleigh on the evening news said the snow forecast for here in the Triangle area is "overblown"...yea right, Mike...you ole' killjoy!

I'm not buying into his "overblown" theory! :P

Another reason for some snow this weekend in Raleigh...my paternal grandfather and two aunts from east-central Indiana would "feel even more right a home" while visiting my folks and I! :D

Actually... Swain, just below it, but I'm sure it'll do the same there.

Yep. Probably right. Swain...Haywood...it's all the same. It doesn't have Atlanta's name on it....so who cares, right? ;)

PS. Hope you get lots of fun cold white stuff to play in during your visit to Gatlinburg. Don't forget to tell Dolly hello for us. ;)

Well, at least you stand a chance of something. Hold on to good thoughts for snow...maybe you'll be getting major dumpage, in spite of your local mets and their "overblown" theory.
