Thanks so much, y'all! I learned a few things the U-Haul manual doesn't tell you. :)

I won't have to worry about speed, as they recommend only going 45 mph. I'll try to go up to 55 but that is the absolute limit...I doubt it'll go any faster anyway with all my junk and my car towing behind.

Had a few friends over to help finish packing...got the truck all loaded so now I just have to have a few last moments with my boyfriend and some friends...then a SOUND night of sleep (hopefully).

I appreciate your prayers and tidbits...will be checking in tomorrow evening once I get to the friend I'm staying with for a few weeks.

G'night!

Made it to Madison safely! It wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought. I guess I tend to work myself up too much in situations like this. Anyway, thank all of you so much for your help and prayers! I had lots of trouble at first (tow dolly was broken so I had to get a new one and it took about 2 hours...blah) so I ended up not making it into Madison in time to store my things, but it works out perfectly since I'm so worn out. In fact, I must collapse now...tomorrow is my first day of work and the 2 or so hours of sleep last night is really wearing on me!

Thanks again!!!
Andy

Man you like to cut it close don't you? I would have tried to have at least a few days between getting there and starting, but I'm not a young pup like you anymore either. :D

Andy - so glad also your trip went smoothly! Like you, I tend to worry about things like this too. It's almost impossible in my case not to worry sometimes. I almost have to give myself a pep talk! I had no warning once that I had to drive a commercial oversized, extended van on the interstate from my hubby's work to home. He gave me two choices, I forget now what the other one was. We were trying to move something. It wasn't one of our easy cars to drive (and we have two 5 speeds!). I'm just not good with large vehicles either, I love small cars! I was so nervous that once I got into the lane I needed for interstate changes I didn't budge - drove the speed limit (something I rarely do, go about 7-10 miles over! LOL). Let's just say I was never so glad to pull into our driveway and said - never again!

Can't even imagine driving what you did!

Mary

PS - I should add one of my brothers has worked for UPS for almost 30 years now. He did home deliveries for years until his knees starting bothering him. About 10 years ago he switched to overnight freight, driving up and back to areas such as Toledo from Cincy. Yes he drives those huge double long semi's. He's always been a very safe driver though....those things blow all over the place in wind and snowstorms (what he really dreads).

Well, I got to Madison too late to drop my things off at the U-Haul facility, so I had to park it in the lot of the apt that I'm staying in for a few weeks, in a no-parking zone. Luckily it didn't seem to bother anyone, and I got off of work early yesterday. It was snowing at a pretty good clip after work, so I was nervous about that, but it was VERY good on the roads....dropped a couch, recliner and lots of random knick-knacks at a Goodwill, then stored the rest of my belongings at U-Haul. I'm pretty proud of myself for moving all alone, and in actuality, they provide a great service for moving and storing. They make it as easy as possible for you, and one of the employees even helped me with a few of the heavy or unwieldy objects. I felt SOOO much better after getting rid of that truck though...and slept much better last night!

Work went well again today, and I'm really looking forward to starting on my own after training in a week or two. I was originially asked to work 3rd shift (midnight to 8 a.m.) Tuesday through Saturday (actually Wednesday morning at 12 through Sunday morning at 8) BUT they had an employee quit a few days ago, so they're hiring AGAIN....which means I will be shifted to 2nd shift after a month or so in the overnight shift! I'll work 4 p.m. to Midnight Tuesday through Saturday...which I think is MUCH better than overnights. That should be a lot easier on my sleep schedule, which is basically similar to that now anyway.

In an event, thanks again everyone! I'll keep you posted on how things are going from time to time.
