My weakness are the numerous shopping bookmarks I have now. I click on them occasionally and then hit the clearance/sale links. From there I usually see something that is a good buy. Then I bookmark that item and think about it.

Don't always buy them but at least I bookmark sale items. Latest item are hiking boots at Lands' End. Seem like a very good deal, only $39. I need a quality pair and had expected to pay almost $100, what I did years ago on the pair I outgrew (don't you hate when your shoe size changes as you age, grrrrr). Still haven't hit that buy now link though....

I am a big Walmart shopper.I find the Target, Albertson's, local grocers here quite expensive. I'll be darned if I am going to pay $1 more per box of instant flavored mashed potatoes at another grocery store. I have found I can save a minumum of $5 per week at Walmart. Let's see...$5 x 52 = $260. And that's the minumum I would save. Now I can take that extra money and do something else with it...like eat out a locally owned restaurant or shop at a local clothing store.

How many of you that dislike Walmart go to the mall to shop for clothes? Do you shop at the local clothing stores or are their clothes too expensive?

Kathy - I buy clothing on sale, starting with Kohl's. Sometimes Target. I also like Lands' End a lot but again, anything I buy there usually is on sale. I can find my way around website now, you just type clearance or sale. Nearly all clothing websites/catalogs have sale sections. As for stores in the mall, I've picked up a few items at Christopher & Banks. Some of their stock is very teacherish but once you look past these items, the rest is nice. Right now about 5 of my weekly rotating clothes (cords, jeans, sweaters) came from C & B.

But I rarely just browse the mall. I love online shopping if I know my size already - I have 5 pairs of cords from LE, but since I know my exact size and length (they hem for free), I just check when they're on sale and then stock up.

I personally do not go to the mall for clothes. I shop at Macy's Burdines, or Bloomingdales. I don't have a hard time paying $80 for a shirt or $90 for pants or even $160 for shoes. And by the way I got a pair of PYTHON boots, outstanding... I don't have a problem paying for stuff like that. The thing is Walmart can be a good thing and a bad thing....By the way the python boots feel like dried snake skin, but awesome on the inside.

I have already posted here about how I feel about wal-mart. In answer to your question cajunmama, I rarely set foot in a mall. The only time I do is if someone has given one of my kids a gift card for a store that is only at the mall. Unfortunately in my area, all the large stores and malls haven driven away all the local clothing stores,(most of the local stores in general) with the exception of stores that sell fancy designer stuff. Would be silly to shop there, not the wardrobe needed for my life of laundry, litterboxes and driving kids to soccer practices. Mostly I shop at kohls lately.

1. Get 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in peoples carts when they aren't looking.

Why does that make just Walmart the bad guy?

I know that for my teenage daughter, Foleys, Express, Dillards etc. is cheaper than the local clothing stores but we frequent them alot...why??????? because they are local. And besides, as a business owner if they spend $$ with me, I'll spend $$ with them.

If walmart were nearly as clean and orderly as the local mall or outlet center I may consider going. I cringe if I even have to think about entering the parking lot at walmart. Its filthy, crowed, and unorganized with too much crap in the middle of the isle for customers to maneuver past each other.

I've done price comparisons with equal merchandise, they aint that much cheaper. I found the items I buy, especially food, may be only a few cents cheaper and when most of the food items I buy are generic to begin with walmart normally isnt worth my time. I'll pay 2 cent more any time to go without the hassle.

As for textiles or clothing. The clothing at walmart, for the most part, is crap. Every pair of curtains I've bought from walmart in the last year which were similar to something at Target, only cheaper.....was crap. I've had to return every set because of uneven hems (obvious uneven hems), no hemming, buttons missing, bad coloring, etc. I've paid more for curtains, bedding at Target, but it was all quality merchandise with no flaws. And if you know how to shop, the clearance sells at Target cant be beat.

Most of the clothing we buy is either from Old Navy or mall stores. Again, the clearance sells at any number of the mall stores, old navy or target are better than walmart low prices any day of the week.

Well, I don't partake anymore myself, but one of their songs is titled "Down to stems and seeds again." That's not what they're all about though. Remember "Hot rod Lincoln" and "Smoke Smoke Smoke that cigarette?" Those are their most well known, but not necessarily their best songs.

Forgot about Old Navy! My daughters can usually find clothing they like there. But we still don't have one nearby. Hoping an ON goes in soon by our local mall.

And I should add my oldest daughter is into the retro/vintage look. She's gone to Goodwill a few times with a friend. It's the teen thing to do apparently. If you're not into Abercrombie, et all (she isn't). In fact she found a vintage Beatles T-shirt in the Village, in NYC a few years ago. In a 3 story Vintage shop there. A shop she said she fell in love with. Sounds like my daughter!!!

Guess I should have kept some vintage clothing for her? LOL

Local clothing stores??? You HAVE local clothing stores in your area? Wow. All we have in the old downtown area now are antique junk stores and a few restaurants.
