Today: Hazy sunshine hot and humid. A 50 percent chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms may be severe with dangerous lightning and strong gusty winds. Highs near 95.

Tonight: Hazy warm and very muggy. Poor sleeping night. Lows near 75.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny hot and humid. Highs in the lower 90s.

Summer in Seattle does not usually feature any of those unpleasant things you mentioned.

No humidity... very few bugs... and very little haze.

Unfortunately very few severe thunderstorms either.

Typical summer weather in Seattle has highs in the 70's or 80's with dewpoints in the 40's or 50's.

Not too bad. And it stays light past 10 p.m.

Yes, during the summer all we get it rain, rain and more rain. Highs in the 50's like TT said and wind storms that knock out the power all the time.

I love the warmth of spring up until about late May, thats when it starts turning just plain hot. Gotta love those huge spring storms that blow through here around March and April though!

I hate severe thunderstorms. If I never had to experience one again, I would be a happy man. There's a fear that you experience when the local weatherman shows the Doppler radar of a severe thunderstorm with circulation approaching your area. And the threat of large hail that could damage your home and cost you thousands. No, you guys can have it.

I totally agree with you planetsnow!!! Everyone in the central plains is so excited about the warm stretch we have and are hoping winter is over bla bla bla!!!! I can garuntee those people, we will have over 80 days with full sun from 5:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.-not a cloud in the sky-we will also have 10 days for sure where it is between 95-110 degrees with 85% humidity!! I can garuntee you this will happen beginning in April-early October-yes, even in September we can hit the 100's!! (Sept. 2003 it was above 100 from August 31st-Sept. 8th) I can not garuntee you it will either snow or we will have an arctic out break. Winter is hard to come by here over all-it has a better chance of being 50 than 10 here-it is in the records!! So again, let me have one more month of winter, then I will be ready to go bass fishing again!!!

I live for severe weather! Thats what got me interested in weather anyway. Sometimes I wish I lived out in the plains and experienced supercell thunderstorms. But hurricanes are good enough for me .

Actually supercell thunderstorms are worst then hurricanes because you don't get a warning sometimes. With hurricanes you get a 2 week warning basically. Also tornadoes are stronger then hurricanes just that they don't cover a large area

2 weeks, yeah right. The longest warning time you may get is 5-7 days, but you don't know what will happen at that time. What about Charley, Andrew, not exactly on schedule, those were suprises. You may get warnings but sometimes hurricanes catch you off guard. They cover a very large area, could have severe storm surge, flooding rains, and they could spawn tens or even over a hundred tornadoes like we've seen this past hurricane season.

well...last summer i hit 90 .... ONCE... and i had frost around the 20th of August... my garden didn't care for it much... we also ended the year over 9inches above normal precip...most of that coming in spring and fall...ended up over 40inches precip for the year...

i hope its a hot/DRY! summer...but not Kansas hot...WI hot

Watch out, because if i could have it my way, i'd be living in PORTLAND, OR right now... I've looked at the number, precip, yearly temp...which is over 10F above are avg yearly temp (i think its 12F) ...

Brookings, OR wouldn't be bad either... I've heard there are palm trees there?

I agree with gboudx on the severe thunderstorms. Those suckers can come out of the blue when your sound asleep. Tornadoes accompany them more times than not. Yes, even thunderstorms are exciting and I used to storm chase them when I was stationed in Abilene, Tx. However I can do without the bad ones. Had relatives killed in a tornado near Summerfield, Ok. years ago when I was a kid, and have had several large oak trees blown over just missing my house here in Arkansas. We were in the storm cellar and I really wondered if our house would still be there when I opened the cellar door by the way it sounded during the storm. There's too much to lose, and even hail can destroy months of garden work and your vehicles.
I've experienced typhoon Pamela in Guam and hurricane Alicia in Baytown, Tx. I would take those over some of the severe thunderstorms I've been through.

Our summer was actually very cool as compared to normal and we also had very above average rain fall. July and August I think averaged about 3-4 degrees below normal-I can remember in early August I was painting a house and it was 105-the next day I was buliding a boat launch and had to wear jeans and a sweat shirt-we actually had strong North winds-really wild stuff. Our September was way above normal and dry-almost put us back into the drought!! Just to add to this: thunderstorms here are pretty dangerous as well. The deck of my house faces North and West so there are many times I can get a great view of them comming in-last summer, saw lightening from t-storms that were still in Nebraska-never did make it this far. The Central plains can be a very wild place weather wise and the widlness actually happens almost every year-of course around the wildness, you can have 2 months of absolute weather boredom!!

Portland is nice... but Seattle is more hilly and the mountains are closer. Seattle is generally more scenic I think. Vancouver, Canada is even more scenic with the mountains even closer. We also get a little more rain in the summer than Portland which keeps it more green. Although you do have to water your lawn in Seattle as well.

Ironically... there are also palm trees in Seattle. I have seen many homes with palm trees in their landscaping. Obviously they do not grow naturally but they seem to survive just fine.

I do not really like palm trees in this setting... the natural trees are much more pretty.

I have noticed that in the spring, summer, and fall the colors here are more vibrant than anywhere I have been. The greens and blues are really spectacular.

Oh wait... it sucks here. Rains all the time. Miserable.
