Guess who's got High Blood Pressure?

#1 Postby breeze » Fri Jan 21, 2005 5:47 pm

Yuck......your's truly....there's just something about
that BOTTOM number being 120 that kinda gets your
attention....

My doc started me on a BP med, yesterday - gotta keep up
the BP diary for two weeks, and, go back for a visit.

Guess my days as "The Margarita Queen" are over!

Annette, you take care of yourself. Do everything the doctor says. We don't want anything to happen to you.

I hope it's not the stress from me giving you a hard time now and then.

LOL, Ed, my doctors say that you're treatable....

oops! I mean, I'm treatable!

Thanks for the concern! I'm certainly going to have to
"walk the straight and narrow" path!

Annette,

I don't have high blood pressure...but another thing...high tryglicerides that were discovered to be in the 670+ range!! As a result I've been put on Tricor.

Age sux, doesn't it Annette? :grr: I'm on HBP and Cholesterol lowering drugs. The HBP is working and I just started the cholesterol meds.

Both HBP and high cholesterol run in my dads side of the family. I eat a low cholesterol diet but my #'s are still high.

I have had high blood pressure since having my first child it was astronomical 200 over 130 or so....they said it was BCP's and I was 28 so had to stop those. Took meds until I had my stomach stappled and lost 100 pounds and then they took me off the BP meds but I still take a fluid pill that keeps it under control. Have to keep it checked often. I love salt and have to make myself not salt things till I like it, makes some foods bland. I don't like the light salt, I found I was using so much of it I might as well use the real stuff.

I went for my check up last year and had blood tests in March and found that unfortunately I got some bad genes from my mom, Diabetes. Borderline it was 106 which wasn't really bad, but my mom's family history with diabetes is very strong so now I take Glucophage in the am and pm. I will say my cravings for chocolate have been reduced, don't know if that is in my mind or if its just getting my blood sugar under control. Another bad gene from both my parents is low good cholestrol, the bad stuff was OK, but my good cholestrol was bad....makes sense right. My dad had a stroke after some major surgery and lived till he was 78 and his mom live till she was 99. My mom is still kicking and going strong at 74 after her quintuple bypass 2 years ago. My brother had heart attack 2 months after he turned 50 and had his own quintuple bypass, so man am I careful. I'm looking at the big 50 in September. YUK!

Please don't stop taking your BP meds when they get it under control. So many people do this and it ends up getting worse.

I wish you alot of luck. At least you're very aware of your family history and are taking steps to keep things under control.

LOL, oh, Dennis, you are SO very bad!!

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I am a nurse, and, I
have done SO many hypertension teachings to my
patients, well....I KNOW what to do - I just have to
remember how strange I felt when it was 178/122
(lightheaded, sensation of bugs crawling on my head,
ears ringing, and face tingling) and REMEMBER how I
don't want to feel that, again! You can betcha that
I'll get that medicine refilled, and, take it religiously.
Mama and I hit the grocery store, today, and, spent
a lot of time buying stuff low in sodium, plus, lower
calorie stuff to get the extra pounds off. I've nixed
slurping on caffeinated diet sodas, all day, and bought
diet caffeine-free sodas....plus low-sugar content
lemonade, and, bottled water. LOL, I'm serious, folks -
I'm NOT going to be scared like that, again!

And, thanks for all of your concern!
