Should i or shouldnt i go to work tonight?

#1 Postby Guest » Fri Jan 21, 2005 7:58 pm

See what everyone thinks.

Models spit out around .60 QPF and with temps in the low teens that equates to about 8 - 16 inches of snow. Add to that winds that will be picking up and gusting between 35 and 50 mph. NWS says up to 10 inches as they think the models are overdoing it with precip.

I go in at 11pm and the show should have or be just starting. I drive 30 miles to work and i get off at 7am when it will be at its worse.

What do you think? Do i call in?

Yes, I would call in...for ie. my Dad was stranded on a road "parking lot" here in Raleigh with a just minimal snowfall for 10 hours from late Wednesday afternoon through part of the wee hours of Thursday morning! Of course, Michigan is alot better equipped to handle winter weather though than whacky Wake County NC is able to...as apparent from last week's storm...but still though you may want to re-consider going in tonight...but that's just my opinion.

I second Skywatch's opinion. Just wondering, where in Michigan are you from? I have an idea where you might be from, but you can PM me if you'd rather, I promise I won't tell anyone.

I would call in unless you are an EMT or something...

Unless I were part of the "solution" (snow plow driver, doctor, EMT, police, firefighter, etc.) I would call in.

There is no reason to add to the "problem" if you can possibly avoid it.

Most companies do not "close" down when there is a storm unless/until the government asks them to but almost all tell their employees to use common sense and discretion about going in. If you live within walking distance of your job and it is safe to walk there, fine. If you have to drive some distance, call in.

Your life and health are not worth risking for a storm.

Stay safe, and I wouldn't go out in whether like that anywhere.

I would call in Harry...those are very dangerous weather conditions to become stranded in. Unless there was absolutely no choice, I wouldn't risk it.

If you could call out, I would. You'd be focusing on the weather and conditions while at work anyhow.

We had a little snow here wednesday nite..the problem was the roads were subfreezing so we ended up with a nice glaze of ice on the roads. For those of you that do not know, I work for a national pizza delivery chain as a driver; we were forced to stop deliveries early in the evening due to hazardous road conditions. The risk of having an accident, or slipping and falling and busting my a$$, was , in my opinion, too great to justify remaining on the road. There were hundreds of accidents in the Hampton/ Newport News metro area that afternoon and evening

No doubt Stephanie..so would I. When the hurricane season starts and a storm threatens land..especially a major storm, I spend more time at my comp than I do working and everything else in my life..including food and sleep, takes a back seat.
