I need to vent...

#1 Postby James » Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:37 am

Sorry about this guys, but I just really need to vent about something. For the past couple of weeks I have been really low and irritable. At the moment it seems as though my whole world is disentigrating around me. The things that I normally enjoy now hold little interest or pleasure for me, and I no longer feel like I'm worth anything. My friends have noticed that I am depressed and say that it is getting annoying, even though I can't help it, which makes me feel worse. In short, I feel helpless, lonely and completely desperate to pull myself out of this mood, but I can't. Anyway, sorry about the post. I just needed to get some things off my chest. Thanks a lot.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can make myself feel better? Thanks.

James take it easy, sit and calm down. You need proffessional help to see what is wrong. Also do prayers because God will always be there to do his part.

Hi James.... Believe it or not, most everyone here has been through similar times as yours. Not much fun being down and depressed. Sometimes the seasons itself put us in that frame of mind.

Best advice I can give you is to a) make sure you focus on at least one thing in your life that still feels right to you...a job, a friend, even a hobby!, b) try getting your mind off yourself and spend some time doing something worthwhile for someone else. Maybe call a family member or visit a longtime friend you haven't seen in a while. And when you do, instead of pouring out your own disappointments, do something nice for them, and c) get some professional help if it continues for any length of time. Sometimes a visit or two to a counselor will help you see things in a different light.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for the advice, guys. I've actually not been saying much about it to my friends, but I have been talking to someone about it and they are making me feel better. I think it's just been amplified because it's currently a very stressful time at school, etc.

It should pass fairly soon. Thanks!

Funny, as Azskyman said, we've ALL been there, DONE that (sorry for the cliche)..not to distract from your post, but I've been in the SAME boat these past 2 weeks. NOTHING is wrong, everything is as always, "GREAT"....I have NO problems to worry about e.g. money, bills, etc, etc.....don't know WHAT it is. We drove to Flagstaff yesterday and FINALLY snapped *out of it* last night, must be the MOON!

Take care James and just like everything else, "This TOO shall pass!"

Paint! In addition to talking to someone, any artistic venue is a great stress outlet and you're so good at it!

Everyone gets into a funk now and then. What you need to do is make sure that if it lasts more than two weeks, perhaps you need to see a doctor. Sometimes having someone to talk to like you have right now will be all you need and hopefully it is.

Good luck!

Hoping you feel better James. Yes it is true everyone goes thru a rough patch or as Stephanie said, gets into a funk.

Lean on all of us to get you thru it! You're among a nice group of people here, IMHO.

Just do what you always love to do, paint.

You can also read a scripture or two, say a few prayers, like I do.

Or, if you really wanna take your frustrations out, go do a little bowling. I know it took a lot of stress out of me. I outta bowl more often.

A week ago, my mom and I sat with a friend of ours who had a grudge against his parents, all because his mother's choice in husbands. We kept telling him to let all the depression and anger go, but he wouldn't. We suggested him to write a letter of apology before he was called to a Half-way house.

I know at times after another manager kicked my family out of a 3rd apartment complex that I feel depressed, but as the saying goes, you just gotta roll with the punches.

Anyways James, I hope things work out for you. ((HUGS)) :)

Oh James, I am concerned about you. We all think the world of you here at Storm2k.

I'd suggest that you keep a journal. Writing down those negative thoughts you are having can really "clear the air". When you feel low just ask yourself, "What's the thought?" You may be thinking that your life has no purpose or you have no one that loves you. Write it down.

Now this is the tricky part. Rethink those negative thoughts and write that down. Write that your life definitely has purpose. You are a wonderful friend. You are a gifted artist who shares his talent. Write all your thoughts on that negative feeling. Is it true that no one loves you? Definitely not. Write down all the people that love. (definitely include those of us at Storm2k.

This is called Cognitive Therapy. It keeps you from spiraling down into those "black funks". It keeps you from being so "down" on yourself or "down" on the world around you. It's really quite effective.

I've been where you are right now. Please talk to your friends and family and really let them know that you need their help. Friends are always willing to give you their support. Come here and vent. PM those of us that you feel comfortable with and we will give you that special ((Hug)) that you need.

((Hugs)) to you my friend and I'll be praying for you.

James, I agree with all Karan said. Although, I have never had Cognitive therapy...

I know what you are going through since I am going through the same type of thing. I have started on and off seeking professional help, although I don't want to go, it helps alot, trust me. Feel free to PM me at anytime if you wish to talk or rant.

I think most people go thru a winter time "funk". I don't know your physical condition, but if you can, get out and walk, take a little jog around the place you live, in other words seek the sunshine. Artifical light is not good for you. Listen to some "happy" music such as "the Wiggles" (I'm just kidding, but I know you have to know who they are my nephew drives me crazy with their tapes). I would suggest Jimmy Buffett, but don't know if you can find any in England. Some ragae music usually gets you moving and feeling happy.

Visit a shut in and do something they need, get some groceries for them or change a light bulb or something for them. I guess I am trying to say do something positive, that will help you combat the negative feelings you are having.

It took a while for me to realize that I was depressed and after going to the doctor and being put on medication I felt better shortly thereafter. I didn't have to stay on the meds long, but they did help.

I hope you get back to yourself soon and we are always here to help you in anyway we can.

You've gotten alot of good advice from good folks,
here, James. Remember - Spring IS coming - sunshine,
and warmer weather, and, it's going to make you feel better.
Try to avoid some negative things that can bring you down,
like watching the news - you CAN live without knowing what's
going on in the world - trust me! You can always pick up when
you start feeling better. We're here for you, buddy!

Thanks for all of your caring thoughts and advice, guys! You really are great! 8-)

I'm feeling substantially better now, even though there is still a little way to go.
